Jeep Mecca that is.

Headed out today and making our way to Moab for Easter Jeep Safari. This is the first trip in our new to us motorhome. Our pet sitter is on vacation as well so we had to bring the cat with us. It should be an interesting 9 days.

Our first stop is Cedar City. I had read about a really cool hike there and I wanted to go try it out. It’s called Kanarra Falls and it’s about 15 miles south of Cedar City. You have to buy a pass and they only allow 150 people per day.

The hike was awesome. You walk back and forth across a river and then eventually walk up the river to some falls. There used to be a rope ladder to get up the falls, but now they have installed a nice metal ladder to get up. The second set of falls you have to climb a tree and then scramble up some rocks. The water is about as cold as just below the dam on Mohave. It was mostly just above the ankles until you got to the top and then it was about mid thigh on me and waist deep on our son.

I forgot to take a picture of our first camp spot. We stayed at the Best Western in Cedar City. They have a small 8 spot RV park adjacent to the hotel. It was nice and clean with large level spots and very easy to get in and out of.

We left Cedar City yesterday around noon. The next stop was Torrey, Utah. We are staying at a small RV park called Sand Creek. The spots are a little tight, but the views are amazing.

We got a late start this morning, but headed off to Capitol Reef which is only about 15 minutes from our RV spot. This was our first trip to the park. It’s different from other National parks we’ve visited in that it’s a lot less crowded. It’s mainly an eight mile scenic drive with a bunch of trailheads to take different hikes. There are also orchards where they grow fruit and have a place where they sell fruit pies and stuff. We only had time for the scenic drive and one hike called Capitol Gorge.

I’m not sure if you are aware, but you have to have a reservation to get into arches now.
Have fun.
We roll into Moab Easter Sunday, after the madness has left :)
Daughters spring break trip. Jeep and hikes in Arches are on the schedule.

Yep. Wife pulled passes for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Trying to get a hiking permit for Fiery Furnace, but can only reserve those 1 week in advance.

Having been to Moab too many times to count, the year we did this was about the best, excluding our month there last October.

We got to Moab on Monday afternoon. We had an RV spot at Slickrock RV park which is now Sun Outdoors North. We have never stayed there before, but in talking to the neighbors they said that many improvements have been made. There was a brand new pool and spa, but it wasn’t open yet. The bathrooms also looked brand new and were nice and clean. We had a 50’ back in “mega” site. It was long but it was not wide. We ended up moving our picnic table in front of the rig because it was so tight. Other than that it was a nice campground. I don’t have a picture of our spot but I have a picture looking at the row across from us.

After we set up camp we headed out to hit a trail called fins’n’things.

Tuesday morning we woke up to snow and 24 degree temperatures. We headed out to Dead Horse Point state park and then Canyonlands. I picked Dead Horse because dogs were allowed on the hiking trails there and also for the view of the Colorado River.

After Dead Horse we headed to Canyonlands. We did two short hikes there, Mesa Arch and Whale Rock. It had only got up to 28 degrees by noon so we weren’t trying to spend too much time outside.

We decided to take a different route back to Moab. We took the Shafer Trail/Potash Road back.

A view from the lookout before we headed down the switchbacks.

Wednesday we had a reservation for Arches, but it was really cold again and we had been on the go constantly so we decided to just hang out around town and check out the river.
We hit the Jeep display and took test drives in the 4xe and 392. We also looked at some of their concept vehicles.

Friday we had another group trail ride scheduled, but when we found out it was very similar to the one on Thursday we decided to skip it and go do fins’n’things again because we didn’t do the whole trail the first time. After that we went to a place called Potato Salad Hill to watch the big boys try it out.

Overall it was a great trip. We don’t think we would do Easter Jeep Safari again though. We had a lot more fun doing trails on our own versus with the group. Also, there are a lot of very strange people in Moab lol.

Love that place. Wheeled there once, camped their once. Going there for Easter Jeep Safari is like going to Havasu on a Holiday Weekend.
