With median house price skyrocketing havasu is going to need to start building apartments like every where else and the tax payers will need to subsidize the rent . If not the local talent pool is all there will ever bee . Sad whats going to happen to that town

Sounds good, always wanted to be a roofer in havasu in july!
Starting at $15 a hour! Good wage for Havasu Lol.
I am washing 2 new vehicles now to ad to the fleet. Just smogged both earlier. Hard part is finding someone to work that will drive them.

That there is the problem.. No rentals that are remotely affordable, and no homes that will fit into the budgets of labor pool for Havasu.

RD
Nik told me the same thing, he's having a hard time getting/keeping employees at his restaurant. They collect more staying home and the fact rents have skyrocketed, even for year-rounders.

i gave up finding a job in this town. i had to "dumb down" my resume so bad to just get a call back from anyone i applied for, then the wage they offered was a joke for what they were asking for (skills i had removed from my resume, they want someone that can do shit but wont pay for it).

i run my monthly pretty lean and dont require much for bills, but for what employers offer in havasu i dont see how anyone can afford to live here and have any type of life outside of work.

went and found a remote position with a calif company making better than what most jobs pay in havasu with killer benefits that employers here do not offer at all.

Seriously that is gonna be a huge problem in Havasu soon. Rent is going nuts there.

100k a year as a landscaper? I can dig a lot of holes and trenches for that! Commute from Golden Shores to Havasu wouldn't be bad...
But my real garage would still be here 😢

And yes, roofing sucks balls in the river valley in July and August. That said, people were more than happy to pay, just had to show up when you said.

Low wages, high housing, etc. There is a reason it doesn't attract a labor pool, especially skilled labor.
skilled labor is one thing (and disappearing across the nation) Tech labor is another and comes with Tech and manufacturing jobs which Havasu as very little of, we are a service based community that needs fed by the Tech and manufacturing jobs for now till we attract the higher end (need a degree) jobs and biz, People think that our current direction is going to hurt us, I say NO it will not, some growing pains for sure but take a good look at Palm Springs say 30ish years ago, you will see it was in basically the same spot as Havasu is in now. "know another's history to predict your future" Look at Palm Springs now and Havasu now, the difference between what Palm Springs has now and what Havasu has now are all the opportunities that are in Havasu for the taking.

Nailed it.

Havasu needed a couple of things over the years to keep up that didn't happen.. One a rail spur, and second was manufacturing/industry jobs that would have attracted labor and management. Neither of those occurred, and the dragged out "recovery" after 08 due to Nexsen's incompetence (his head was so far up his ass he could have seen daylight), pushed a lot of people/resources out of town. That guy had a fundamental misunderstanding of economics, and was nothing more than a beancounter (yes I know he is an accountant). He really set the town back in a lot of ways. Havasu is a tourist town, it had the chance to be more..but the city really fucked that up over the years.

The city will eventually have to either have municipal owned section 8 type housing..(which is a double edged sword), or its going to continue to face a competent labor shortage. It's already rearing its head very evidently... I built/modernized a lot of section 8 housing in 2017, and 2018 for both a municipality, and private investment...it attracts good people, and it attracts absolute trash...but at this point if the city council continues to sit on their hands and do nothing to bring in higher wage jobs the city is going to have a lot more issues on its hand than it does right now.

I have a coworker that almost had to move to Texas by the first because of rent cost changes here. The misunderstanding was barely cleared up in time. The issue is very real.

people will do no different then we did as young adults getting on our feet (roommates) the number are somewhat relative, in the 80's I had jobs as low as $7hr and house rents were $500mo almost 2weeks pay for rent, so it's $25hr and $2kmo still 2 weeks pay for rent

You make a valid point, but city leadership needs to get on the train or they will get left at the station saying "what if"...just like after 08.

usually problems with hiring stem from the fact that its not incentivized to work for an employer... if you dangle a carrot in front of a horse it will walk forward. its pretty simple. you put a big steamy pile of poop in front, its gonna turn around and go away.

pay more.

planning and zoning can steer the direction and they are well aware of what we need, but it takes investors to step on the gas, as long as Havasu's development is privately funded and the largest R.O.I. is single family homes that's what we will get, it will take the influx of long term investors that want monthly reoccurring R.O.I. rather then the instant R.O.I. investor that drive our market now.

Having worked with several "long term" investors who fund section 8 style projects..I just don't see it coming to Havasu. 2 of the ones I was involved with got substantial "government" money via tax breaks, grants, land deals etc. They were also in highly desirable areas, where the incentive was convertibility after x number of years into "high end" rentals or condo's to be sold (usually 20 years). Havasu is desirable for many of us...otherwise we wouldn't go there...but it doesn't have the investor draw for the end return that many other places do. Without JOBS, and I mean HIGH paying jobs...I just don't see it, and that is a major factor in investment. You need one to attract the other. I 100% understand your view on it, and I obviously have a different view...time will tell what happens. I love havasu but it was a $10/hr town for a long time, it's maybe $15-20 now...and with the jump in costs, and the explosion of properties converted from Long term to vacation rental the housing shortage has driven prices to where it's not sustainable for that population. Something has to give.

Are you fuckers paying attention??? Working class is GONE! Your asshole gubment pays better for labor to sit at home. While they print money, raising home and stock which is really lowering the value of the dollar. Don’t forget this shit!!!

JUST A LITTLE FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR ALL OF YOU.

if the first thing you do at a interview is ask HOW MUCH? @riverroyal (AKA "pickle sniffer") that's always the first resume in the trash, shows a employer your out for yourself and definitely not looking for a part on his or her team ;)

Quality, dependable labor has always been an issue in Havasu. For years much of the labor pool has been transient And/or worked for slave wages. This worked for years because the demand was moderate and the supply was was continually refreshed.

The wealth in the city now is creating a whole new set of problems, big city problems. Until wages increase to attract skilled labor, and housing is available for unskilled labor, the problems will persist.
