So I have always wanted to run the Parker Enduro, Elsinore, Long Beach etc. Maybe one day Catalina Ski Race? But with the price range of Shiada's NEVER STOPPING from heading north. I gotta find a different hull to start with. Anyone have any experience setting up say a Campbell 21? or a Nordic 21? I have seen a few Specta's pop up that are in a good price range?

I have heard that the 70's-80's era V-drive boats need different prop shaft angles and cavitation set ups to run 700 hp plus. I have been told to push the heavy Campbells, Nordics, spectra's you need something in the 900hp range to qualify as "last place". Any help into de-mystifying proper boat set up would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to buy beer, coffee or any beverage for local OC guru's that might let me pick their brain!

First....I understand if is not a shiada, you are not worthy. I get it, but if I have to be a the caboose for a few years I am okay with that, I just want to get out and try this style of racing first hand!

Let the Newb Flaming begin.

Forgive the ignorance, I had been told CSR has a small boat v-drive class? Maybe I was mistaken. Either way. The enduro is what I am set out for, so one vote stoker.

Thanks

Most of the ski race boats are in the 40 foot range with the exception of the Aussie 21's. Force, Cyclone and Nordic all have 21's that are proven competitors. Not to say that Schiada, Hallett, Campbell, Spectra, Howard and others haven't done well but the Aussie 21 outboards are consistently in the top 10 with much larger boats. You could run one of these in the Enduro and probably do well but if I were building an Enduro boat it would be a Mod-VP style hull. Actually if I were building an enduro boat I would try and run a Silverwing. Not sure that they would allow as they haven't let true tunnels in as far as I know.

All that said a nordic 21 SR (which is the Cyclone mold) would be a boat that you could run in both and do reasonably well.

Pxrthis went out and bought himself a stoker or similar, made some changes ran the Enduro, won his class, then sold the boat.
You better have some Deep Pockets if you think you want to build a V-drive Enduro boat.

My first question would be, and be honest, what is your budget for this?

Second question is, what class do you want to run in?

Honest, 20k to throw at it this year. I am looking to build upon something moving forward. Thats why Id like to find a running boat in the 6-8k field and work from there.

The engine, transmission side of it wont be a huge financial nail in the coffin as I have most of that puzzle already.

So the classes is the most confusion. From the Bluewater Rulebook they call them divisions?

I believe DIvision IV is 515 and under N/a
And DIvision V is unlimited motor.

These would be the two I would be interested in. With the DIvision 4 being the one I have the most parts for at the moment. I have a 509 under the bench that is a solid build with little needed. I have always thought of the tt route when freshing up that motor, but that would require different pistons and supporting cast if I wanted to go that route ooo and money lol.

I appreciate your question cause it hints to my OP, I dont expect to win anything, Id just like to dabble and see if I like it. Or worst, say I did it a few times.

For the division 4 you may want to look for a raysoncraft or the Howard schiada.
Guys that I know that ran it back in the day just to run it, their game plan was put the tach at 5 grand and leave it there.lol

The Rayson's are fast. There is a guy on here who ran one last year at the enduro I think.

You definitely won't be competitive on a budget like that. The main thing you wanna focus on is to finish. There is a LOT of attrition in these races!

Your basically looking to compete with the GN crowd. And I'm guessing that's what you want to do? since maybe you know what the current pot is?? I'm not positive you will qualify for it. But I haven't studied the fine points of the rules (for this year). There will be a Lot of peeps coming out of the woodwork for this years race, due to the size of the pot. But like I said, somehow I have a feeling you know this.

Build for the long run. Don't even consider being the fastest guy out there, there's no point at all in doing that at all. What you do want to do is make your boat bulletproof, so it can actually finish the race.

Build to finish. Ya never know! ;)

We should partner up, I have a 20' Raysoncraft that I'd love to build for the Enduro. I've collected a few items for when I start rebuilding. I personally want to shoot for a slower class with goals on finishing.
Where are you located?

BUILD TO FINISH is that I am talking about! And no.... I did not know there was a large purse out there for GN this year.

Could you fill me in on something Rivermobster. I was told and from the races I have attended, GN is more of your stripped down traditional V-drive boat. 18-20 foot, big power, canoe. But then there is also a class of like 21 foot Day cruiser style boats (the larger shiada's, howards, spectra, etc.) or are all those boats in the same class?

I have spent months trying to find a break down of classes in the world of boat racing and it's non-existent, everyone has something different. It's not like I race spring cars vs. stock cars vs modifieds.

I am personally not looking to throw 1000 hp into an 18 ft v drive and try to ride chop .

There was a team last year that basically swapped motors in a Hallett Vector 21' V-Drive and raced to finish. I think they won their division or at least placed. I remember hearing the story at the trophy ceremony. One guy had the boat one guy had the motor and off they went to put a boat together for the race. It was all concocted at Fox's or Roadrunner and came to fruition in October. Good luck with the plan. I would love to see more people participate with V-Drives just to go out and have fun. Just be prepared to spend money...

Here's a link to last year's rules for the enduro. https://www.riverdavesplace.com/for...t-casino-parker-enduro-official-rules.167815/

Hell I'll be happy running my 468. She might actually survive the distance. Slow and steady. Lol

I have a text into Ross to see if he has everything posted up for this year yet. As soon as he gets back to me, I'll post the info here.

I thought I read somewhere your required to run a gps with speed restrictions, not sure if that’s new for this year. One class was 110 while another was 85mph. I could be mistaken.

I'm a v-drive guy but too cheap to race one in the Enduro that's why I bought the Stoker. We've finished two of three years without breaking the bank. We watch people spend more in one race and not finish than we've spent including the purchase of the boat in the three years we've been there. Good luck with whatever you end up with and do it asap because the race is a ton of fun.

pixrthis!

Thats what I am talking about!! The race for me is 100% fun if I can just have something live competitively at that level.

An outboard is the easiest and most affordable boat to make live for the Enduro and I have to say the Stoker is a fun boat to drive specially if it's rough which Parker usually isn't. Maybe with the wager in class IV there will be more boats and make it rough, I expect more GN boats will show up to try and win the big money which is great for the race. The race is all about the fun factor for me too, when it stops being fun I'm out.
