Thursday evening just before it started to get dark my wife was driving the Jeep back to the Palms from the city which means south to dam, across to CA side, drive toward Black Meadow Landing and then a 7.5 mile trip on the dirt road.

So about a mile in she comes to the top of a hill at the same time as another Jeep got there from the other direction[emoji15]

She drives very slow on that road so I know she was going only 15-20 max.....the other guy was a snowbird from South Dakota so probably not going that fast either.....they were both able to only to hit the brakes for a second before hitting and here's how it turned out......let me just say that no one was hurt...(Thank God).

Our Jeep

Front suspension was damaged, front wheel broken, suspension damaged as well as hood, both front fenders and a broken windshield.

The other Jeep

Much more damage to suspension, front axle back 3-4 inches, radiator is done and the engine looks a bit askew in there not to mention both airbags also went off.

Pretty sure the other Wrangler will get totaled as it's a 2000 TJ with a soft top.

Our Jeep which is a little less damaged is a 2006 TJ Unlimited Rubicon so not sure if it will be totaled or not.....in any case I'm really glad I put that new front bumper on lest year cuz I think it really helped keep my wife and the Jeep from totally crunching like the other one.

What do you guys think.....will it be a total????

Wow that sucks! Glad everybody is ok and not hurt!

His is going to be totaled
Your looks like new fenders and a hood then a little paint.
I would say your’s won’t be totaled.

If they do total yours buy it back, the LJ Rubi is a great platform and is an awesome wheeler, high demand! My Havasu neighbor is looking for one right now and a deal could be made if you decide you don’t want it.

I have an 05 LJ Rubi on 35’s in Havasu they are a ton of fun!

Sucks to see jeeps all smashed up

Glad you guys are ok. The issue you have is that book value and true value for your rig are 2 different animals. Either way make usre your ins company uses real market examples vs book. I bet its totaled unless you get the value up.

Yeah......I'm thinking that I'll buy it back even if they total it. Whether I keep it or sell it not sure as I've been thinking of upgrading to a 4 door so I can use it for business when we. are looking at vacant land......on the other hand things get expensive when you start talking broken suspension and possible bent frame as well as the airbags

My estimate would be if repair cost approach $9k its a total unless your insurance has other guidelines its usually around 70% of wholesale book value they will total. Each company is slightly different.

The software company i worked for did the damage costing and fair mkt value figures for insurance industry

Air bags deployed is generally going to be a totaling of the vehicle now. Crazy cost to replace, and with crumple zones those things generally fold up pretty good . Like stated, I'd buy it back as the parts for those things are everywhere.

I think it would be 50/50 at fault.

glad nobody was hurt.................................

Yup that's what they have determined after talking to both parties involved.

Glad your wife is OK. Jeeps can be replaced much easier.
Based on posts and photos, thinking they are going to total your Jeep. Time to upgrade to a JKUR.

That sucks. Glad eveyones alright. Depending on the final evaluation of what the insurance will give you, you might be better off buying it back and parting it out. You have an easy 4 k sitting there just in the doors, hardtop and engine alone. Dibs on roll bar pads if you do lol

Any insurance hic ups because of the road?? Is it a real road or a jeep trail??
Some insurance won't pay if you were off road...(Their definition of a road and yours may be different).Glad no one was hurt...

Glad your wife is alright. It is not a Jeep trail. Whip flags may not have prevented this. There are some bad blind spots on that road. Believe they actually bring mobile homes/park models over that road. Imagine they do that with escort vehicles.

Oh no it was much further down the paved road to the dirt road which is just before you get to Black Meadow Landing, then a left turn on a dirt road which is about 7.5 miles to Havasu Palms.....she was a about a mile in when they came together.
