If he has the money for a newer suburban, lift, tires, wheels and a boat tell him to put his foot on the throttle and don't worry about it.

Or step up to a real truck to tow

its funny, older cars, specifically vans, scare the hell out of me now, compared with the modern safety equipment of vehicles

What scares me more are the people that still believe they are somehow better and safer lol.

For what it's worth. When I had my 24' Baja Outlaw I towed it with a lifted 97 Suburban 2500 on 42's. Redid gears as recommended by people and found zero difference in the way it pulled.

If you didn't put 5:30 or higher gears for 42's, it wouldn't make a dent! Lol. 42's ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I don't remember exactly what I put in it. But it was supposed to be this noticeably big difference and low and behold, it wasn't.

And yeah, it was ridiculous. 15" lift, 42's. 12 12" JL Sub wall in the back. LOL Fun ride.

That is a bad ass ride though!
It was a lot of fun. Wheeled it in Pismo. Took it to shows. Sold it to buy a duramax dually that would tow our Top Gun. Wish I still had it, like most of my old vehicles LOL

I've seen that crash test video before and it's kinda BS. In slow motion you can see that BelAir was structurally compromised already. Huge amount of body rust fallen to the ground on the impact. It was probably not a rotisserie restoration. only lipstick on a pig kinda job on it. ;) 🤣 I'm not saying the Malibu didn't fare well since it has all the crumple zones built into it.Still, it would be a write off by insurance though.
Most people would cherish that 59 [ buddy had one ] and not let it destroyed if it was in great condition. :(
