Ok friend has a 2018 suburban lifted pro comp 8” lift with Idk 35? With the 5.3 engine.
Soooooo he bought a 26 ft deck boat triple axle and yeaaaa you already know . He cant do pass 65 mph . I told him your gonna struggle towing that. So would there be a dded benefit to do the following ? 1) cold air intake 2) throttle command pedal 3) exhaust 4) rear gear the pumpkin? Or start over get the 6.2 or go to diesel and drop the mic? I know the knowledge here is sick!

I’m going to assume he has the 3.08 rear end and not the max trailering package with the 3.42 because he doesn’t sound like he plans that far ahead. With a 3.08 he’s going to struggle even without the lift and tires. As HitIt said above, a filter and exhaust isn’t going to do anything but make it louder. He’s going to need to regear. 3.73? 4.10 maybe?

Gears! I would imagine if it's got 8" lift it's going to have at least 37s on it. I'm surprised it even gets out of it's own way if it hasn't been geared already, let alone towing.

What year is the burb. I would probably do 4:10s

Find out what tire diameter is, and Re-gear it accordingly. You’ll need to tune it to get the Speedo and shift points back in line. Nothing else will help like gears!

I'd trade it in on a diesel.
Either way...$$$$

I’m tossing this on my 8.1. I’m hoping it’ll go faster than 65...

I agree. Heavy truck already, and small block torque. I’d error on the side of lower is better. With the giant lift and tires the guy has already committed big to horrible fuel mileage and not giving one shit.

I think while he’s got stuff apart he should do what he can to upgrade his breaks too.

Regear. Anything else engine related will only burn more fuel and no speed increase.

I'll put one of those on my Miata and do circles around my Viper:)🤣

The biggest thing I've learned is all these youtubers just slapping a turbo onto their cars and being like "we did this for only $300!" are all full of sh%t. its a snowball that keeps on rolling.

Yeap, a proper setup with ecu swap for the Miata is close to 3K. I'm doing suspension and slicks, rollbar and a few other things to it. We had a 1990 Miata that we lightened it down to 1750 pound but kept the 1.6 engine and still achieved 2: 28 second laptime. We have a Honda S2000 [ 240HP] in the works with roll cage also that should be able to do low 2: 20's in the GTU Class.

OP, re- gearing would be the best solution IMHO. I remember a guy with a Avalanche that had 4.10 gears towing a 33' Baja no problem. My son just bought an Escalade with the 6.2 engine [ 406HP ] and 3.42 gears and it's rated to tow only 7600lbs. So I guess for towing over that weight you'll need 4.10 for sure.

The suburbans have a different rear chassis that the pick-ups and definitely a different rear end with a 4 link vs a traditional leaf in a truck. That combined with the much more curb weight of the Subtubs (and the different variants) result in the lower tow ratings even with the larger engines.

Towing police say older trucks will out tow any new 1/2 ton lol.

its funny, older cars, specifically vans, scare the hell out of me now, compared with the modern safety equipment of vehicles
