I haven't seen a movie on over 10 years. Seems like everything is crap these days. I just finished rewatching Cool Hand Luke for the umpteenth time. It got me thinking about so many great movies from the past. Movies that would make you think and stay with you for days or months or forever.

Now it seems like it is all super heroes or other mindless shit. Have there been any really good movies in the last few years? Anything that can stand the test of time like Cool Hand Luke?

Greenland isn't bad but it's not Cool Hand Luke 😁

Funniest movie we've watched in a while is Man Up - beware, it's a RomCom

I recently watched a YouTube video of the filming locations for Cool Hand Luke (by History Hunters)..... with the exception of the parking meter scene a lot of the other locations haven’t changed a whole lot in 50+ years

3:10 to Yuma. Rooster Cogburn. The new versions. Watch 310 with loud surround. Hangover plays and I think Hangover 2 is just as good.
Ford Ferrari absolutely
Joker. Very dark freaked my wife out.

Tombstone, Wyatt Earp, 3:10 to Yuma. But also Top gun, Gladiator, Troy. If these are on the wife rolls her eyes and goes to the other room to watch tv because i wont/can't turn them off!

Heat
L.A. Confidential
One of my favorite movies that no one seems to know about is Barfly with Mickey Rourke. Love that movie.

Hellz yes on Barfly, "To all my friends". I couldn't find it the last time I looked, love that movie too.

Also, Faye Dunaway with Warren Beatty in Bonnie and Clyde. She was just mesmerizing to look at...

I don't get Tombstone...

The Spaghetti Western's ruled, period. All the Clint movies, Once Upon a Time in the West, My Name is Nobody.....Leone+Morricone were the best.

And...anybody else ever said "What we've got here is failure to communicate" and had the other person say, "Oh yeah, love that GnR song" lol

3:10 to Yuma and The Mule came to mind as well. But ChiliPepper was talking about in the last few years. I think the movie industry has really changed in the last few years with all the streaming sight putting out movies as well. Really kind of thins out exposure to who sees what.
One that stood out for me was Triple Frontier on Netflix. I liked it.

With you on Tombstone. Maybe because I saw the Costner one first. I have the dvd of Barfly I bought years ago and it was hard to get. Only the region one or whatever the foreign version is was only available.
My favorite quote is “Eddie, your mothers cunt stinks.......like carpet cleaner”.

Along with Gladiator, Heat, and Tombstone, I would add Troy, Good Fellas, and Casino.

Newer movies, I liked Kill The Irishman. I also like a movie with Joaquin Phoenix (I can't remember the name), where he is a vigilante that F's people up with a hammer. It was pretty dark, but a good movie.

Did you know HEAT was a high-budget remake?

The near-unknown original was called LA Takedown, you can stream it for free on YouTube and possibly elsewhere.

Yes, recent movies, like in the last 5 years. Lots of great older ones mentioned here but I think much like the music industry, Hollywierd has turned to crap because they need to make sure every movie is a money maker and they don't want to take any risks. That's why they stick to formula movies and remakes.

I did think of one I watched on my computer, "Hell or Highwater". Very good with some really good scenes (gas station and hooker in casino come to mind) with good lines. "MrPibb is for assholes", "Drink up!" and "How have you managed to stay out of jail?", ":It's been difficult". Ben Foster is excellent in it and good story line. Makes you think a bit as you can see both sides point of view (the two main characters and LE).

So the kind of movie I'm talking about is one that makes you think. The one where you remain in your seat for a minute after it ends then slowly get up and leave and remain silent the whole drive home thinking about what you just saw. Some other movies in the past like that for me anyways, were Deliverance and The Deer Hunter. Or surprise twist endings like Primal Fear or The Usual Suspects. And of course, Shawshank. And speaking of Shawshank, that same years was Pulp Fiction and Gump plus a ton of other good movies (not necessarily great). Pulp Fiction and Gump were very entertaining but not really movies that made you think about anything in particular.

I'll have to check out The Mule because anything Clint does is going to be good.

We can name classics all day.
But in the last 10 years or so?
Comedy...there’s a few.
Old school, fockers, etc
But probably the best movie in the last 15 years is “The departed”.

I thought 3:10 to Yuma was unwatchable.
Death wish with Bruce Willis was cool.

Seen these previews for “Wrath of man” with Jason Statham than looks pretty bad ass?

You want good movies, ya gotta go WAY back, Give an old black and white any day- Destry Rides Again, Casablanca, The Haves and Have Nots, Sierra Madre, The Gun Fighter, To Kill a Mockingbird. Alfred Hitchcock Movies, but if color is where its at, Try Nevada Smith, Support your Local Gunfighter, Local Sheriff, and Cool Hand Luke is a classic (the egg scene), Shawshank Redemption, the list goes on and on.
Oh and if you want to go the other way and watch a really bad movie for fun, Amazon Women on the Moon - I was a grip on this movie, one of the few I'm actually in the credits.

I did see Hell or Highwater and it was very good. The Mule was very good (but anything Clint does is great and I think 90% of Kevin Costner movies are great too).

Haven't been to a movie theatre in many years. Most "new(er)" movies we see are usually already been out for awhile before we actually watch them, lol.

Lawless... The Highwaymen... Open Range... No Country for Old Men... The Green Mile... The Patriot... Braveheart...

Ha, just looking at some of the ones I listed, they are way older than 10 years old. Shit where does the time go. o_O:p

When I was working shift work, No Country for Old Men played at least once a week I think, such a bad ass movie!!!!! And one that I dont ever hear mentioned.......

I also like the Sin Citys, The Spirit was along those lines as well, and for some reason the Hellboys I like.

Not nearly as good as Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death.
