Well figured id start a thread in here about our small 25 acre recreational property we bought in jacksboro TX. Will be primarily recreational for now with camping hunting and all thing recreational that come with it. Bought it mostly for our children to hunt and play and who know what the future holds with it. Won't be nearly as extravagant as some of the other inmates properties but its our and well keep managing and upgrading buildings and what not as we go.

Heres a couple pictures of the property

that looks like a great start!

keep an eye out for a 20 or 40 ft shipping container great for storage and build a deck / car port off the side great to hang out in during bad weather. We did that here in the Ca desert.

we drank a lot of beer sitting up on the roof great view 8 ft up off the ground, I found a wherehouse rolling step ladder! The kids would jump from the top down onto a trampoline and back up to the top of the box…

good times

Love the property and what your plans are with it and the kids!!

Are you accepting applications for more kids? If so where do I fill one out??🤣🤣
Currently its just purely recreational they can hunt ride there horses and 4 wheelers. They are so busy with there sports and rodeos and to ad my work schedule on top of it we just dont have time to take those weekend trips to camp and what not.

So we sold the DP and put our money into our ranch so know we can run out and enjoy nature and wildlife An hour from home.

Couple of scopes on today. Now have to get out to sight them in. The vortex is new on my sons .243 as he drooped ot last year and it couldn't get sighted in after that. Vortex was excellent with there customer service and stood by there lifetime warranty.
The bushnell i picked up from a friend that went to a nocturnal scope so he wasn't using it but was deadly with it on his ar at 200ish yds. Just built it last winter. Doesn't even have a round through it.

next time out to the ranch ill see where i can get a 50-100yd range setup to be able to sight stuff in.

Nice!

I really think of finding something like this myself.

Do you usually overnight in the RV?

Thinking I'd really prefer to just day trip (if I can find a place within an hour's distance).

I'd only need build a shooting range/bar shelter, storage shed, and outhouse then.

As if now overnights are in the trailer. Most overnights will just be if we're able to hunt evening and then again in the morning. Mostly day trips like yesterday we ran out sat to see if we had any doves flying and then checked all the cameras was home by 10.

Yes shooting range/shelter and storage are the next big projects for sure. As of now i just tow out what we need for that days project.

well we went out this morning to try to hunt for lunch. No success so we put new batteries and collected SD cards from the cameras. One cell camera did not work so brought it home got it working and then... dove season is pretty long season here so hopefully have better luck next outing. On the other note I guess I am looking for a different cell cam manufacturer

Well as were only 2 days away from archery season had a couple hours to run out to the ranch and fill the feeders. Have alot of different game running through our property just not alot if any bucks. Should be an eventful hunting season. Hopefully the big issue is do to qll the new land owners and new movement with buildings and traveling through the area.

It was eventful to say the least had to load everything to get out of the house. Then once we got on the move ended up blowing a tire and then had to stop at the gas station for corn.

The wife was free so she jumped in and lended me a hand with the couple hours we had once we got there.

Well dad fail. Took my son out for opening day archery and was 2 days early. Lol so we made the best of it. Saw 2 coyotes without being able to get a shot off. And was able to get a project done.

Well its been awhile since I updated but season is over and already have moved some stuff around for next year. Although we didn’t get some of our projects done that we initially wanted we primarily focused on just spending time out at our place and we did just that. Spent several nights and days out enjoying the peace and quiet and were fortunate ti take a couple bucks this year.

Well today is the last day of hunting season in Texas and we dont have much to ahow for it. 😝 we do have some meat in the freezer but theae old mature bucks just outsmarted us this year. I do have some friends and family that use a rifle to hunt but we’re setup primarily to bow hunt. My son really dedicated himself to his bow this year as well. Projects get placed on hold sometimes just cause my uncertainty of what i want to do. I usually think them out entirely to much and then procrastinate on doing them. So that being said i have some roads to repair and some trees and pasture that need tending to as well also the well or lack of water and a septic system for the black tank. This is just recreational for us and i spend most of my time there with a couple buddies and my son. Wife wants to build something on it for a more permanent hang out spot but im worried about my tax exemption as im not willing to have that change at all. So for now we’re still using our 5th wheel for accommodation.

We also got the opportunity to hunt some closer locations to home which is nice to het my kids out to hunt after school. There were a couple of bucks you just get hooked on and put all your effort into them. We had some close up and hood hunts but never was able to get a shot off and as we know theyll be around next year. 🤞

Well another deer season is upon us. Not a lot if projects getting done. 😆 just a lot of stuff on the back burner. But thats ok got the old travel trailer out and ready fixed the entrance road up to the rv pad. Moved a tree stand built a new feeder pen. And to top it off not a lot of buck activity on trail cams. This is our first cold streak so ill be out hunting by myself until the kids have some free time from there activities. So heres just some pictures that kept us busy in between seasons.

I've kinda looked at doing a lease or buying a small property, but never seriously. What does something like that run?

Just really depends on location county and size. Property in my area was 3-5k an acre when i purchased and is now 7-10k. Depending how much you hunt depends on what i would do. Leases can get expensive and limited on what you get to hunt and what you get to harvest. Theres a guy that leases land for fairly cheap for day hunts out of Bridgeport . Doesn’t have any real good setups but its cheap and harvests fees aren’t that crazy compared to others.
