Just a couple miles past Yucca Valley turn off headed towards Parker. We rolled up about 4:30 and fire department said it would be about 4 1/2 hours before they would let people pass we took it off road and went around. Looked like a head on collision very bad!

That’s terrible. Looks to be a head on. I don’t drive it much, but I’ve seen the nutty drivers firsthand. It’s one of the reasons we boat where we do. Easy drive and little traffic.

That’s terrible. I try and go through ehrenberg about 1/2 the time just to change it up. Always take ehrenberg on holidays.

this has been our route since 2020. Animals don’t like rice.
Drove rice for 15 years prior, and for some reason people think it is a race, so we stopped driving it after a few incidents that rattled me.

What's the odds passing were the cause.... I drive it and Ehrenberg...it seems every time I drive now I see examples of folks just getting lucky....there are clearly places you don't pass....blind curves....blind hills/rises...some of the dips...If you drive it you know but I see more and more folks passing in those known spots...I slow and get away from them after they pass me....

One time we decided to head to Parker midday Sunday.... the passing that was coming towards convinced us never drive to the river on Sunday using Rice....it was downright dangerous facing the Sunday Race from the other direction...

RIP...

I get it. I got two little girls and the drive takes awhile either way. Going through ehrenberg gives me another spot where they can pee also. I have had to pull the kiddy potty out enough times on rice road to warrant ehrenberg from here on out. Lol

With the way the sky looked and the humidity this morning....I decided to avoid Rice Rd mainly due to the possibility of flash floods...and assholes who can't drive.

Sucks.

That 2500 destroyed the 5500
In the report stuff though, it says "party in Dodge has Ramsey Tow en route"...It looks like the impact shoved the Cummins across the driver's side...hate to see what the driver side one Chevy looks like. Once again though, seat belt may be an issue as well. Either way, masses moving towards each other make for ugly impacts.

Sad Deal for sure
Looks like the 40 or Er for me in the morning. I got a mother and child I’m dropping off, hitching a ride with us to Havasu to pick up a car at a dealership. No rice tomorrow. I will only go that way during the week with just wife and I

I too prefer driving rice at night. Always felt had a better chance seeing headlights on the blind spots. Also could likely see them from a distance and know a car would be coming soon.

I am not a fan of any 2 lane at night. We prefer driving in the morning. If I leave my house between 5am - 8am we will sometimes jump on Rice as it is usually pretty empty at those times.

This has been working for us. Leave Carlsbad @ 4am, in Havasu by 9. No traffic to the 10 and a nice easy drive.
When leaving Havasu we usually leave around 4pm.

And the asshole that speeds up as you are passing them. Most cunty maneuver of all time.

Happens all the time on that stretch of the 95 between Paradise Hills and the 40. Some little bitch will be going 60 in the 65, I'll speed up and pass in a safe spot maybe get to 80 to make the pass quick, and back it down to 75 and the guy pacing my bumper all of a sudden.

Rice road is way faster !

Ehrenberg has a Bridge being built - major delays, stand still traffic for hours, no gas stations anywhere, No Bagel Bites or C stores in sight, it’s Indian land - Really high pass thru fee’s if not staying on the reservation
I can go on about how bad it is !

way way Better on Rice Road!! You can save Precious Time by taking Rice rd, once Time has passed you’ll never get it back !!
Just think of everything you can do in those saved 10 minutes …..

Emergency response is way, way faster on Ehrenberg RD as well as the other reasons to use it.
Jus' experience from my decades and decades of rolling down both rds.
Very true, starting 7/3 I will be one of the responding paramedics in that area once my transfer completes. Accidents on rice are never a good thing. Lake tamarisk has a medic engine that is 3/0 staffing with one medic. Bylthe has 2 responding ambulances and 3 ALS paramedic engines just outside city limits, not to mention mercy 18 is the closest airship with a response time of 20-25 minutes

Since all the palm trees are dead, I usually miss the desert center exit anyway….

Plus, it’s nice putting eyes on the river earlier in the trip.

Rough one for sure.

…add Rice Road to the list of thing that are closed, like Parker.

Not having been on rice road how long of a section is it? And knowingly as is now it can be dangerous, why hasn’t it been divided yet by concrete dividers?

Chp who wrote my last ticket on rice rd opened my eyes a little bit and gave me advice from one father to another. If you get in a crash, your children get flown to Phoenix I believe to a children’s hospital and the adults will get flown to a Vegas hospital. You could be in two separate states from your kids if hurt

Do you believe guns are dangerous??

It's a road. Just like the millions of other roads in the county.

I've been driving it for almost 50 years with no issues.

Concrete dividers?? No thank you.

Looks terrible. That trailer also looks like a buddies of mine that stores his standups in it in the Big River area. Can anyone confirm or deny seeing Superjets around the scene? Thankfully I know that isn't my buddy but it sure looks like his trailer.

People have pushed to have it widened to no avail

Hmmm, interesting analogy 🤔
A gun isn't potentially dangerous until somebody interacts with it, Rice road isn't potentially dangerous either, until somebody drives on it. 🥴 ;)

Little misinformation. Lake Tamarisk eng staffing is 4 with two medics.

Rice does not even make the top 10 list of deadliest roads in CA. You are more at risk on the 10 getting to Rice Road than you are on Rice Road.

Tragic crash.

I was just telling my wife that while I’m building the new fire station I’m sure I will be thinking that every time I hear 49 roll out that they are responding to a head on TC on Rice
