I had been considering attending the boat show but what's this about hotels and cost?

Doesn't the government provide housing like they do in Canada?

Well they do for Canadians.. Same as providing health care for mexicans, we want everyone to feel at home.

for us citizens though were shit outta luck if ya know what I"m saying. We gotta pay, or who's gonna?

If your don't have to move around at rush hour times, options increase greatly with a 20-25 minute drive.:hmm

What/where would be a nice place to stay within a cab ride to the convention center? I plan on doing a little drinking, and therefore won't be driving.

this one seems even better than the other one:smackhead

A tropical oasis in the heart of West Hollywood, steps from Santa Monica Boulevard. Walk to restaurants, shops, bars and dance clubs. Meet new friends or just relax in a gay country club environment. The San Vicente Resort-Inn is the only clothing optional resort in Los Angeles

Dave the holiday inn is across the street from staples, and is not a bad place to stay, and it is fairly inexpensive...

I guess we aren't the only ones. It happened to us year before last, and we were staying there. I don't really remember the specifics, but we weren't drunk as we just got there.

The city does provide this Tom. It's right across the street from the Convention Center under a bridge within easy walking distance. It's a bring your own blanket facility though. They call it the no bed and no breakfast suites.

I would think you would want to stay at the hotel where the Trident, RDP shin dig is.
Where ever that may be.

Wish I could be of some help working down there for so many years and all.

The hotels are either booked solid like the Holiday Inn, or they are very expensive, or they are like the King Edward, located on Skid Row and the potential to be seedy.

King Edward has a fun co-ed USC crowd at the bar at nite though.

The New Otani is our favorite, but pricy.
The Angels Flite bar upstairs is fun, but the Manager/bartender has the worst speach impediment. You can't understand a word he says.

The dash shuttle stop out front take you straight to the Convention center.
A close-by good place to eat is McCormicks and Schmidts.

LA Police Chief Bratton take his evening walk & passes by the hotel about sundown most evenings BTW.

Yup, that's the easiest and closest.

There is also the Marriott up the street, and the Sheraton. The Marriott at 3rd/Fig is reasonable and a step up from the Holiday, and as mentioned, the Bonaventure and Wilshire Grand Hotel if they wanna get spendy.

The downtown area has actually improved leaps and bounds over the past ten years or so, and is becoming the new trendy place to hang out and live.

I had an office for years at 7th/Flower above the subway (the Roosevelt Bldg), it was cheap rent. Now it's been converted into *lofts*, as has many of the older historic buildings...some of them priced at $2-$3mil

And oh yeah, the Pantry line starts early :)

What about staying in Pasadena and taking the Metrolink train.

What about staying in Pasadena and taking the Metrolink train.

You'd take the gold line of the Metro RAIL.
The closest Metro LINK line May not run on weekends.

Or Consider Long Beach and use the Metro Rail Blue Line.
It terminates one block from the Convention Center.
Pack some heat, it travels through & makes stops in high crime areas like the lovely Watts towers cultural stop and the Nickerson Gardens Model Cities Housing projects.

Remember their is a difference between Metro Rail and link:
The RAIL are the daily every 10 minute electric trains.
Link are the commuter every 2-3 hours diesel trains.

Guess another option would be take the metrolink to Union Station and then take the bus to the convention center. One of my co-workers did that for a Laker game and said was pretty nice and uneventful.

Check the schedule that the Santa Clarita line runs.
Amtrak is running and is usually the same price just different hours
