Used? Or better yet for a lighter V-Bottom boat what would be the best motor?

Hate to send you elsewhere on your own board, but Scream and fly has the Wacker market covered pretty damn well. Have a pretty active Classifieds forum too;)

never buy anything on scream and fly...

more so when some one says it has "dyno time only"

lol

RD you can buy a older light wieght V hull with a running 2.5 starting at about 5k( maybe less these days)

rebuilders start at about 1500 ( its about 800 for a power head rebuild kit, having them rebuilt is $$$$$, its almost always better to spend 1500 and get a used power head.)
A running but stock 2.5 is about 2500-3000
rebuilt with mild mods is 5000-6000

Bad ass = 300 "drag" S3000 is the designation I believe

My motor was a worked 260 w/ 21cc heads as opposed to the pump gas friendly 26s and a "drag motor" ignition box w/Brucatto SVS (intake/Throttlebody)

Everything else is a 6800 rpm turd :D

This Merc shit is getting far and few between, thus more and more expensive. Any legitimate HiPo Merc stuff is gonna get fairly pricey. If you want gas and go, ignore this post...

Im pretty sure you've realized now that there are a large range of 2.5's to choose from. You can get a 150 hp 25" shaft "fishing" motor up to a 300+ hp 15" shaft race motor. If you were looking for more of a badass HiPo motor, think about the mid teens or so unless you buy untested and used (good luck finding one like that).

That Mariner looks like a nice deal. Not the real HiPo motor but very capable of being upgraded and it already has the really nice lower unit.

Get a compression test and if posible a leak down test. Compression should be about 115-125lbs on stock motor. Leak down less than 10%.

$4000.00 up how old of 2.5 are you looking for

I was looking for a 2.5 for a particular project.. That project has already come and gone so it's kinda moot now.

Welcome to the site though! What is your business? Ski 2 race marine?

RD - many of the F2 boats on the NWSRA circuit are running strong because of Ski & Race Marine. John's been in ski racing a long time, is a great driver, know's his outboards and where to place the motor for optimal performance, plus he's who I go to with all my rigging and ski racing questions.

Here's a cool shot of John Doherty pulling Cameron King, with Mike King observing @ World's. Great shot with Todd along the wall. Sean

45 more hp

I've been told Yamaha is planning to use that reed on the YZ125 / YZ250. It's circulating on dirt bike forums right now. Seems to agree with the backing plate in the first photo.

I don't know, it still refers to reed valve petals - maybe not.

Ahh yeah, you are right. Too bad. I wonder how much one of those little reeds cost cause Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to get a plate machined like that to adapt those valves into a dirt bike.

:D

I got a shifter kart with a KTM 125 I wouldn't mind trying it on. Also thinking about trying a jetski carb on it.

45 horsepower from a set of reeds?

Pass. lol!

By the way, I wouldn't mind knowing what a 2.5 EFI goes for these days. I've got a 260 with the light weight cowl and offshore mid that has been on an engine stand for two years.

260 on the stand for two years? Sounds like the US court system's got your 260 on trial. I guess a 260 on the stand could be considered an investment for your retirement!:D

Avoid Hondas.
Years of thrust bearing problems and still issues after several re-designs.
They are covering it, even out of warranty,, but the problem persists.
