Just got a couple of quotes and my mind is blown at what the prices are that I received. I’m thinking they are so busy today that the wall contractors are just quoting FU prices? SMH

What should the ballpark price be in Havasu for a 220’ liner feet X 5.5’ tall split face block wall with cap stones?

Well thats 294 block per course and you need 9 courses or 846 block... Home depot sells split face 8x8x16 at 2.85 so you have about $2600 in block. Plus steel/concrete and labor.... I am going to guess 12-15K. I was quoted $15 a block for engineered block building about a month ago.

nail on the head, no one "needs" work right now so the only way you are getting in is if you say yes to the FU price

I was thinking right about where you came in at between 11K-13K. WRONG - I was off by almost 80%, lol. 🤪

Are you saying Hallett21 was closer at 22K?... holy shit

LA area that would be right on the money from
what I’ve seen. I just think havasu contractors are so swamped that they can charge whatever they want.

All assuming you have a 2’x2’ ish footing.

You’re short on your block number. My math says 2,600 blocks.

294 per course X 9 course equals 2,64

Edit.

Closer to $8-9 a block.

Your math is correct, I missed something but got the courses correct... so closer to 9 bucks a block... whew... that makes more sense. Even though its still a lot of cabbage.

Also no idea what concrete is going for in havasu. But here in LA area 10 yards cash is going for $1300ish.

Tack on rebar, labor and profit it doesn’t sound that out of line.

Figure a mason and helper cost OTD $50 an hour. Plus profit $100 a ft isn’t crazy.

2000-2100 for 10 yards in Page AZ, I bet Havasu is 185 a yard or so... Lets see if I can get the math right.

2x2x220 = 880 cubic feet / 27 = 32.5 yards at 150 a yard = $5000 for footings
Backhoe for 1 day if its an easy dig... etc..

Ya.. I am out, going to stay retired... Good luck!

I just checked and my math is probably off. I paid 110 a yard in Woodland Hills Sept 19.

Pool pricing has all to do about perimeter running footage. Look at the overall size, if he can cut it down it will save a grip of cash. Have your buddy call Brian @ Desert Storm Custom Pools. He's one of the good guys in town who won't jack people over!

to figure blocks needed, first you have to convert 220' to inches= so 220 x 12 =2640 inches correct????? then you have to divide by block size so.... 2640 divide by 16= 165,.... right????? then you have to x by 8 correct??? blocks are 8'' and 8 x 8 = 64'' or 5'4.... right???? and add a 2'' cap... = 5'6'' wall
so 8 x 165 = 1320 blocks plus 165 cap.....1485 blocks total

real easy way to check your math.... you can't have more blocks then you have feet.... blocks are 1'4'' long

$110 a foot pretty much hit the number he was quoted.

In terms of the math, it just proves that I can't multi task at all and trying to do 3 things at once while playing on RDP is as safe as playing on the freeway...

Without any hesitation last month a masonry contractor told me $15 a block for a shop up in Page Az, so I thought I would play along and try to do a cost per block. I missed the mark pretty bad until @hallet21 cleaned up my math and block count around post #11...

$15 per block is right close to $22,000 .... $10 per block is $14,850 again, different math than I use...

So your block count of 1485 divide by $24,200 is $16.29 a block... that's more than my quote of $15, so I guess I was getting a deal! But it doesn't matter I already bought a metal building instead!

But he will use the same subs in town for the walls.

We are doing all of our pool walls and gates now. I didnt ask price since friend of ours owns Masonry and More so we get some pretty good pricing, and he has done three houses and pools for us so far. I will let you know once they are done.

are you sure???? thats $33k
Ha Nope, lol. I think my original block count was skewed. I’m guessing it should be around 1500 blocks (220’L x 9 courses) Price came in approx $19K or $13 Block. Seems high to me, but maybe I should just be happy that I actually got a quote from anyone after sending it to 4 places, lol. I’ll give Jeff a call and see if he wants to quote it? Thanks!

He was going off of my chinese math ... hbhavasu and 21hallet don't need to be held to account on my missed block count.
Guess I forgot the"with all due respect"... I read the thread and went... What did I just read??

$13 per 8" block smooth face, plus cap, plus footing. I'm not sure the cost for split maybe add $1.50. So $22k+ sounds about right.

Look into 4" smooth bock with 8" block columns every 13 feet. Probably be a good savings.

That is a lot for a privacy wall. You know how else you can get some privacy... shutters. I wonder how much they cost these days.

It's not just for privacy. It is also needed for a 5'H minimum pool safety fencing before the city will sign off on my pool build later this year. (My yard has zero fencing currently)
