I talked to the owner of Hurry Up the huge Outerlimits Cat at Catfest and asked about the fuel...his boat holds 250 gallons and he can run pump fuel if hes on the 1350 setting on his engines. He said that he would need to fill up a second time for the weekend.
So if he is burning through 350-450 gallons of fuel in a weekend at $3 per gallon its between $1000-$1350 just in fuel
damn...and I complain about $150 to fill up mine.

I used to own a 58 foot Hatteras sport fisher ran it up and down the coast from Cabo to Catalina it had 12v-92 TI Detroits

At 20 Knots it burns 90 Gal an Hour it had almost 2000 Gal Capacity friends and clients always offered to help with fuel I never let anyone help ( thats another story ) the average fill was between 3 to $4000.00 they say the cheapest part of boat ownership is the fuel if your going to wine about it buy a Boston Whaler with a small outboard .... my favorite river runner BTW because I never washed waxed or worried about a thing just put gas in them and ran the shit out of them...

Boats and the River are a item I never keep track of the cost of because if I did my habits might change and its my only release. So fuck it burn the fuel and enjoy it with the ones you love.... life is short and theres no do over....

Thanks
I think the cost of living is the relative correlation.
Santa Clarita was the last place imho guys in this job could live a middle class life.
Now with homes in the $900’s + up there, not sure where the new guys will buy homes.
Sad
I saw OC firefighters have same issues. They have to commute to their stations/ shifts.... that ain't right.

I like the concept of "don't keep track".
If I have money to get there and back, fuel skiis or boat...and keep kids fed...we're going.
Life's too short, and kids are growing too fast. If I blink, I may miss it. I'm not feeding twin 450's, or 1350's for that matter, but the water is shared with all kinds. I'm good with that.

5 days on the water and im in $200 in the boat .. pirates x2 , steamboat , topoc and running 65-70 with a few times touching 90+ and the needles are still just below the F on the gauge .... Shitty outboards ... LOL
That’s pretty nice. I’m guessing that would have cost me double.. at least.

$360 boat. Put a ton of miles this last week but that was over 6 days.
Probably another $300 food and drinks.

1000 just in the boat between supercat and ds ran to pirates twice and then the channel a couple times and normally hit up 3 dunes on the way back home as well. Our place is in the springs so we got some miles in.

$42.00
Last minute decision to crash a friends DS party, hopped in Amy's Subaru and went straight to the pool. Drank about 900 beers, passed out comfortably then drove home Sunday. No line at the launch ramp, no traffic either. You guys posted great pics so I felt like I was out there without all the hassle 😁

For once in my life it was zero. The guys who came out with me literally tackled me before I could get my card in the machine to pay.

They will definitely be invited back.

$747.13 truck and boat, granted I picked the truck up in Phoenix and drove back to Utah and hooked the boat! That’s a 50/50 almost, the boat had some in from storage so it for sure saved me some $. This was from Sunday- Sunday and I was not easy on the go pedal on the truck! Not bad for a stock truck.

I don’t really pay attention to fuel prices or how much I use, except for the end of the year when adding up all the recites, it is what it is!

One thing I’m finding is these outboards don’t sip fuel as touted.. lol

Depends how you run it, at least on my 300 Verado. If I stay under 4000 rpm’s it’s pretty efficient. If I am running at 6000 rpm’s it drinks fuel fairly quickly. I can get to Pilot Rock from the Marina and back to my slip on 3 gallons of gas if I am cruising at about 30 mph. It’s about 10 miles round trip.

They are still thirsty but nothing like I/O’s I’ve had in the past. And they legit cruise really well at 90-110.

Guessing that sipping is for boats riding on top vs cruising through. I wish i remember how many gallons we used in the DW32’ with 450’s. We only blasted from Windsor to the Gorge and back. It was surprisingly low for what i figured. @Jumppack JB doesn’t go through a ton in his Trifecta but he does drive pretty slow. ;)

I'm gonna guess I dropped around between three and four hundred in fuel.

Another great week at the river. 😎

Interesting point Dave brings up on fuel consumption.... for me in my 496HO I could put in $50 at harbor fuel dockside and run out Newport Harbor down to EBay and out there as long as wanted over a few hours horsing around and have enough to idle back through harbor, hit a couple bars and make it to Dunes for de launch fine.... but I learned a lesson one day when conditions were not normal, We has super flat soft Santa Anas and ocean was a lake so I was able to get into above 3500 rpms for lengthy periods and boy what a difference in fuel use.... that was the day I ran out of fuel at the dock. Thought I had plenty but what a difference it made running above 3500. You lake/ river guys are all about higher rpms with that flat water so gotta feel fuel $. I mean I bet folks are laughing reading a guy only puts $50 in fuel for an outing right. Even on Catalina overnights fuel was never really a consideration cause fact is on a 30' most days your gonna average about 2500-3000 rpms at sea with short bursts in 3500-4000 to get some jumping in.
