Stopped at a chevron yesterday to get some fuel. As I’m standing there filling up, I notice the distinct skunk smell of weed, which I hate. I look around and realize the guy in front of me, wearing socks and sandles in his white mustang with California plates is standing there, on the phone, blazing a joint while filling his POS Ford. Fucking idiot is lucky he didn’t kill everyone. I got my receipt and left. Society is really fucked but at least all the libs are high!

I quit asking that question because I think people were starting to take it as a challenge.

I'm surprised there are not more mishaps/ explosions and violence at gas stations. Where else can a guy be fueling his 100k Denali next to a idiot stoner gassing his Pinto/mustang/ beater 2 door. Its where all types migrate for just a few minutes inches away from explosive liquid.

Was there any breeze blowing at all? Any way to keep the fumes trapped so they can reach high enough concentration to combust? Cause almost all the stations I have been to that are not surrounded by multi-story buildings could almost never get to optimal conditions for combustion without a major failure of some equipment.

Weed is all I smelled in Vegas last week. In the casino. Outside the casino. All over in and on the way to the parking garage. Shopping centers. Coming from Kingman you seem to notice it all the time wherever you go to Vegas.

Ford drivers are fine. It's the guys in the GMC's that are questionable.

:werd:

I have heard that in addition to the unbelievable towing capacity of the F150s they will also resist a gasoline or other IED explosions within 20 feet of such device. :looking:

Who's the resident Arson Investigator myth buster on RDP? I have questions why shit doesn't go wrong as I see this all the time.....

If you've ever thrown a cigarette into a puddle of gas, it goes out. A lit cigarette burning in gas fumes... no ignition.
Gas ignites between 500 °F and 540 °F, the cigarette at its hottest was between 450 °F and 500 °F but only when it was actually being smoked.

Insane.
I was just at the beach in Huntington . . . it was a pretty warm for hear, sun was out, just a nice day.
There was a group of womens club volleyball players playing on the sand. Probably a couple 100+ young gals in shorts and those sports bra/tank tops.
So 2 other young gals, I shit you not, come walking down the boardwalk wearing long pants, and big black puffy down jackets . . .
But get this, they not only had on masks, they had on gloves, and those clear plastic face shields like surgeons wear . . remember, this is at the beach on a friday morning !!!!!!!

They walked on the opposite side of the boardwalk , away from the sand, and I just HAD to stop and observe. It was so surreal to see these two all paranoid, out in the open air, at the beach, sunny, nice light ocean breeze, and keep glancing over at these young gals, in great physical shape, exercising, enjoying each others company. It was like they were looking at them in total disbelief.

I just can't believe how stupid, and feeble mankind is becoming . . . . it's truly very sad.

The whole smoking weed thing in public drives me FUCKIN CRAZY! I hate that shit. A) it's illegal (even in area's it's legal to buy and smoke, it's not legal to smoke in public. B) most people don't want to smell that shit C) driving while high? brilliant

Go smoke weed all day everyday for all I care. Just keep that shit at home. If you can't go to the gas station or to the store or wherever in public without blazing up I got news...You have a major dependency problem and should probably get some help. They call people that drink all day alcoholics. So what do they call people that blaze all day long. Stoners? Heard that was offensive. LOL🤦‍♂️

Friend has his face burned when looking in bike tank and another guy helped him out with a lighter. Got about 16 inches away and it flashed.
Helping a friend stick the tanks at closing at a gas station when Sid walks up with a lighter to help him see the marks. Got about 2 feet away and ignited the tank.
Got in a fight with a guy at the boat races for smoking b the boat. No smoking with in 50 feet. Asshole wanted to argue about how it won’t start a fire. Fuck you that’s the rules. Go away. Still wanted to argue.
How’s that saying go? There’s is a measurable limit to intelligence but no measure of the limit to stupidity.

So you’re saying a spark plug reaches 500 degrees?🤨😂

The underground tank vents have stacks and are bout 10-12 ft up and usually away from everything

the F stick still has vapors coming out of the filler nozzle, and anything can happen!

when filling gas cans set them on the ground so no static electricity can spark, like in the bed of a truck.

The vapors must be contained in order for the fuel air ratio to be sufficient for ignition and with gasoline, the ratio actually has to be relatively high so thats why you only see those things happen like in Coolchange's posts when it involves a closed container of gas or in extremely close proximity to one where the concentration is relatively high.

That’s the temp of the operating conditions of a plug. The actual temp of the spark? I don’t know. Static electricity will ignite fuel vapor, even below zero.
I think we are combining multiple situations.
Flashpoint. Auto combustion. Fuel vapor.
Compression has noting to do with it just igniting.

In high school in 1981 if I had all the money I spent on dime bags and quarters for the Defender machine, I could open my own goddamn gas station! :p Funny that I haven’t smoked weed in 25 years and don’t care to..
Used to take out the seeds and stems on Rolling Stone or Creem/Circus magazines :p

I view weed similar to Big Macs. If you are smoking weed all the time or eating Big Macs all the time...you simple are not a competitive person. Certainly not being the best you.

When I was in the fire academy, our instructor for the arson investigation portion was the current (at the time) State of California fire marshal. He took a petri dish, filled it halfway with gasoline, lit a cigarette, and then puffed the Cherry right above and into the gasoline. Obviously it did not ignite, because the burning cigarette was not hot enough to ignite the gas Vapors.

However, the lighter or match that you use to ignite the cigarette most definitely is hot enough, so that's probably why people shouldn't smoke in a gas station.

Correct. And even for the lighter to work the vapors would have to be in high enough concentration for combustion which is extremely unlikely in an open gas station.

I think the OP would freak the hell out the way I used to check gas piping for a furnace....... with a lighter. :-D

The fuel isn't but the vapors are, had a guy at work filling up his semi late at night and decided it would be a good idea to use his lighter to see how full it was while filling up. The flash burned off his eye brows, singed his mustache and beard, burned off his hair up to his baseball cap and had second and third degree burns to most of his face an neck. His politically incorrect nick name became redskin.

Gasoline as a liquid is not flammable either, it's the Vapors that are flammable when they combine with oxygen within the correct flammable limits.

The flashpoint of diesel is between 125 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit, while gasoline vaporizes at -45F.

That sucks for your guy, I would venture to guess that he had a close to empty tank, in a very hot climate, and left the truck running, while pumping in warm fuel.

So you’re saying a spark plug reaches 500 degrees?🤨😂

The temp of the spark plasma itself is very, very hot. like into the thousands of degrees.

To be exited enough to emit light in that color range you are talking 5000+ Kelvin (above white). that is close to 10k degrees Fahrenheit.

That has been my point for years. I don't give two shits about who smokes what. But when the dimwhits exhale it affects everyone around them... but hey, it is the wonder drug so maybe it's a good thing right?
