I wonder if boat operator cards like we have in Canada and Washington State will help?

Kept waiting for the  to pop out...

Lucky that chick in the back didn't go out of the boat. That cut looked like it needed stitches? Nice "evidence" for impaired (and unskilled) driving. Ha, "look at me, I can go faster than a sea doo, whoops"....

At times it may seem like an operator just has no skills. My old 250 Daytona, big gears, big prop, lots of blower surge, hydraulic to the helm steering, add in a bit of wind and a tight dock. It is very, very easy to look like an idiot.

Many times, I would just drop wifey off at the dock and trailer it with a rope. I dropped out of a poker run in an old Eliminator poker run cuz I couldn't idle up to a rough and windy card stop. I got mercy for stuff, I been there.

Looks like he had twins but either way, very easy situation to get out of. With a current, wind or even if he had a broken drive.

It just looked to me that he didn't turn the out drive when he backed up. Not to hard to do. Hell even I have been able to do that...:)

Did that look like an even remotely tough situation to you?

RD

If the current was moving into there I'm sure it would make it a little more difficult. I'm in no way defending the guy. Just simply stating it looks like the current may have been pushing him is all.

he wanted to drive out forward, instead of BACKING out to the main channel and then swinging around . "Those mimosas at breakfast always effect the low speed steering" . If that boat had twins this guy would have hit way more floating objects surrounding him . (even though twins are 100% better for spots like this)

he never gave it enough power to over take the current..the current was always in control

Some of us vdrivers can relate to this. There is a set of docks on arrowhead that I have done this exact thing because the wind hits you broadside, and the boat has no steering ability in reverse. You live and learn. I have learned to be selective on where I dock now after looking like a complete idiot. I can vividly remember the lady on the dock yelling pointers out as I kept blowing into shore!!

That guy made me nervous. And my boat wasn't even parked even there in the marina.

With any amount of power AND twins, that thing should spin on its own axis no matter the current. That of course is with a driver that has more brains than $$$.

Strong current can be a bitch with single sterndrive, even worse running a V-drive boat in reverse, However, this boat has twins, no excuse not using them properly. As soon he pulled out from his slip,he should have put the port drive in reverse, starboard forward. Turning the wheel slightly to the right and give a blip of the throttle.Straighten the drives and damn the torpedoes.

Sure doesn't sound like twins to me. And, the single scoop leads me to disagree. I have also learned the hard way, where to dock my v-drive to make for an easy exit.

I didn't listen to the sound but even if it's a single, a stern driven boat is the easiest to maneuver:p

That would be a horrendous mistake to crash into your parts supplier and engine builder.. LOL

As for the Beep Beep Video (for the other members), it isn't current that had that guy all twisted up, it was a light breeze. I'd be surprised if that boat was a single as big as it was, but it's possible. Either way that guy has zero concept how to handle his boat at wakeless speeds.

To continue with our theme, this is our bad boat driver of the day "Greg." He's lucky to be alive.

Note the boat was "telling him" I don't like that around the 55 second mark to just past a minute. He ultimately crosses a set of wakes that ends in disaster.

Absent that Keel Guard hooking up on the wake, I think Greg's skills could have pulled it out. :yikes
