Here’s my two cents- I have an ‘08 LMM and couldn’t be happier. 134k miles, Allison trans, EFI live 5 position switch, 4” exhaust- 550hp/875ft lbs torque, 19mpg towing, daily driving or towing 12k lbs. doesn’t matter, it’s a damn work horse, and rocket ship all in one, and still way more comfortable that any early 2000’s truck or older. Fully loaded with leather, power everything, factory nav, rear dvd, valued around $30k. Registration costs me $160/yr. my Only complaint is the small tank on the short bed crew cabs, so I built a custom 38gal aux tank in the bed.
Eco boost has nice appealing numbers, but it’s still only a 1/2 ton truck, however you slice it. 3/4 ton truck with a gas motor, is still a gas hog now matter how you slice it, and doesn’t have the torque and power of the diesel.
I definitely love when I am pulling my 12k lb trailer up a grade at 70mph passing prius’. Lol

Out of
Left field but I have a 2016 Nissan Titan XD 5.6 gas that I’m going to sell soon. Full leather, 4 wd, it’s the bigger of two TITANS and very stable on the road when towing. To put it in perspective, it weighs just as much as a 2500 diesel. I’m guessing I would list it around 35k. 28,000 miles.

I'm keeping the Tacoma for now but I'll def revisit this thread once I'm ready for an upgrade.

How many people do you normally carry on a trip?

I’m sure the haters will hate, but I’d look at a used 3/4ton Mega Cab.
5.9 Cummins is a stout engine.
The automatic trans are the weak link, more specifically the torque converter.
You’ll have room and towing capacity to grow into, not out of (again) ;)

The suspension options from the aftermarket abound as well as power upgrades when the bug bites you, lol.

I finally found what I was looking for! Picked up this bad boy a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier.

2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD. 106k miles.

AZ truck it’s whole life with 1-owner. Sold and serviced at dealership in Scottsdale since 2005. Stock drivetrain except for Banks intake and cat-back exhaust.

It actually has a really nice ProComp 6” lift, bracket kit, front shock hoop kit and steering stabilizer so all the factory suspension geometry is retained but not really my style. That’ll go along with these rims however the Michelin LTX tires are only 2000miles old.

Figured I might as well turn this into a build thread!

I don't care about making big power. More so focused on increasing reliability.

Planned out the first stage of upgrades to the truck:

What wipes out the injectors on the Duramax engine? Fuel pressure? Fuel filter quality? Both?

The truck is looking great! It doesn’t even know when I’m towing the little Baja behind it.

The old Coleman pop-up camper was stolen and in my search for a replacement I managed to find a mint condition Flippac camper shell. My camping game is now on a whole new level and I’m excited to start drawing up what will be an exoskeleton style frame for the camper shell and interior build out to mount to.

I passed on ordering a Fass lift pump in favor of an AirDog unit and once that gets in, the truck will be down for upgrades to the fuel and oil systems.

I’ve slowly been acquiring parts like a two compartment sink, horizontally mounted propane tank and all the little parts that will make up the pump house.

A bulletproofed 6.o was the way to go for me, 13,000 for the solid 2006 80,000 mile f250 truck and 6,000 in bulletproofing upgrades and don't even feel 12k lbs behind me with the A/C on in Bhc mid summer at 17mpg. Upgrades consisted of new heads, injectors, bypass oil cooler, HD oil pump, new radiator, head gaskets, ARP studs, egr cooler and valve, relocated oil filter and cooling system filter. All parts through Bulletproof Diesel and Sinister Diesel. Just turned 160,000 miles of carefree towing and I only use it to tow my 5th wheel and boat. Just my .02 cents.

I’m close to tearing the truck down for upgrades. The AirDog lift pump came in today and it looks like a quality kit. Feel pretty good about the move over from Fass so far.

Last few items I'm waiting on fuel line tools and some fittings for the Nicktane billet filter head.
