Is it possible to build a relatively inexpensive 100 mph V-8 boat? What kind/brand boat and what motor? Assume an outboard would be cheaper but like the sound of a V8.

MAYBE the 26 Tahiti that Todd makes which is the old 26 force mold. I think any big name company eliminator, ultra, Howard you’re prob looking over 200 for a 25 or 26

A flat bottom can be made to run pretty fast without spending a complete fortune on an engine. How do you plan to use the boat, since you have posted in the boat racing section. Friend of mine just bought an absolutely beautiful Canyon flat this weekend for 20K, less engine. He got it for his daughter to drag race.

We need to be friends....150K = inexpensive boat :) Just be safe first, shit happens real fast on the water and at a lot slower than 100mph

Easiest and least expensive? 22ft stoker with a blue 502.

Bone stock you can do 98 all day (once you learn how to drive it). Minor mods will push it over 100 easily.

Note: All air entrapment hulls are Very weight sensitive and the Stoker is no exception. It's not going to do 100 with four people in it. But seriously, would you want to do that anyway?? 100mph is serious speed and shit can go wrong in a blink. Not the best idea to put three other lives in that kinna danger.

But I'll do it on my own all day long on my own...............

Thanks for the replies. Don't want to kill myself or anyone else. I know water doesn't forgive mistakes as happened near here a couple weeks ago.

For now, just wondering if it is possible at a somewhat reasonable cost. Appears it can be done.

Like the Stoker and a 502 beautiful boat.

Does “build” mean brand new or could it be a restoration?

What size/type of boat are you talking? What type of boating? Lot's of variables here, an air entrapment hull will get you to 100 with less HP. A flat bottom/runner bottom will get you over 100 but it's possible you aren't taking that on the river or lake everyday due to conditions.

A couple of years back I sold a long deck Hallett flat to a guy for $2300. He built his own big cubic inch engine and it runs over 100 at the drags, he showed me a time slip. I am currently working on gathering parts for a single carb 477 cu in engine that we plan to make 700 hp on the dyno on AV gas, to go into a drag boat for my friend's son. Pretty certain it will run over 100. As I asked before, what are you trying to do? You still did not define your idea of "inexpensive".

21-25 eliminator should do 100 for under a 150k if we are talking redoing a used boat.

I did a story for RDP a couple of years ago about a genuine 100+mph boat for under $25,000. It was done at All Seasons Marine in Boulder City, NV -- purchased a used STV, rerigged it with a slightly modified 225HP Evinrude V-6 outboard. It also had seating for a driver and four passengers. Fun little lake rocket.

I know of a 19' Daytona you could buy for cheap, and build it how you'd like. 😜
