After three years of being closed to the public, Irvine Lake officially re-opened today for shoreline fishing. Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner was finally successful in negotiating a one-year agreement between Serrano Water District and Irvine Ranch to get the lake re-opened on a limited scale. Irvine will be open 3-days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7am, $5 parking fee, fishing is free - five fish limit) a week for shore fishing only (there are a host of other restrictions including no boats and no body contact with the water). The lake is currently not being stocked with fish either. Gary James, owner of James Productions (Gary has operated the property adjoining Irvine Lake for years (a large outdoor venue mostly for corporate events and picnics) appears to be in charge of the day-to-day operations. Certainly not back to its day of boat racing greatest, but at least Irvine Lake is back in business for now and maybe sometime in the future racing might be considered.

I bet there are some giant fish in that lake 3 years of no fishing. Might have to take the boy.
