We ran a total of 5 props today. Here are the results.....just like I thought, it’s gonna be in the neighborhood of a 28. This is all we had as far as props for today. Meeting with Mercury later in the week and hopefully have some of the new 5 blades to try out. 74.5mph @ 6300rpm was the best we got today.

-22 bravo 65mph @ 6450rpm

-26 chopper 62mph @ 6300rpm

-28 bravo 2 hole 73mph @ 6100rpm (Nordic prop)

-28 bravo no holes 15 1/4 74.5mph @ 6300rpm

-26 trophy 65mph @ 5700rpm

Are those all three blades? Four blades? The differences are really interesting.

All were 4 blades except the chopper prop. That was a 3 blade

Ok, that answers a few questions, except...

Why is the RPM so low with the 26?

What's the max WOT RPM on that engine from the factory?

Just curious is all. :)

Not sure why it was so low with the 26. It hits the rev limiter at 6350.

Yeah, that's odd for sure. The 26 Should have hit the rev limiter if the 28 was against it. I'd by wanting to try a 27 next. We might have one in Parker, but I'm not 100% positive on that. I think the 27 turned out to be the best all around prop, and we use the 24 for skiing.

Oh and, you probably should use regular fuel if that's what it calls for. Higher octane fuels burn slower than lower octane fuels. You'll actually lose power running 91. :)

Awesome set up for sure.

Definitely need to play with setup. 22% slip is pretty high. Looking forward to the progress!
[emoji1303]

Edit:

Looking over the numbers again the 22 was running at 15%. Were you having to over trim the motor to get it to break free on the others?

I’m thinking a hooked up 24-25 might help

I wasn’t driving the boat. Gil from Fallon was. I was along for the ride and monitoring the gps and rpm’s. Next week after the boat show alot of testing will be getting done. This boat should run 80mph + when done

Yes. CDR out of Kentucky is making them as we speak. Suppose to be 20lbs lighter than stock and have better airflow. [emoji1303]

Primer grey doesnt help it lol but updated progress 4 stroke

But even better then the looks is the 20+ lbs we are able to take off this cowl, the more air we can add, the ability to remove cowl from the ground with exterior latches, we should of helped fuel efficency with more air and less weight, should see hole shot improvement and we were able to shorten it to fit garage better. I've tried to address all issues but performance is key.

For those that don't have facebook, here is the carbon fiber cowling.

I did some prop testing over the weekend on the boat. This is with the Sportmaster lower running about 1” above the bottom of the boat. Still waiting to get my hands on the Torquemaster lower to test.

Max 5 25 6100 @ 72
Max 5 24 6100 @ 72
Bravo 1 24 6250 @ 74
Rev 4 25 5700 @ 70
Rev 4 24 bblades 5800 @ 70

Are you still running the same motor set back as before?

Bravo 1 24 felt the best outta the hole. I’m trying to get my hands on a Bravo 1 FS to try. Suppose to be the shit for the 4 stroke outboards.

The fs is just a vented bravo correct?

Yes. They say it’s also in between the labbed version. The Mercury rep recommended that I try the Bravo 1 FS in a 27p.

I will check storage. I think I have a vented 26, For our outboard stoker. I know we have a vented 24 on the blue boat.

I have a Mazco 28 3 blade. Not sure if that is something that would work? Or if you want to try.

Maybe the vented 26 might work. I don’t think the 28 3 blade will do anything

Is there a benefit by having the motor that far off the transom...

It was that way when I purchased the boat. We removed the 5” jack plate to move the motor forward and it didn’t really make a difference to me.

Do the 300R's have the pre-programmed break in period in the ECU like the XS did, ie rev limiter that increases over time.

Yes. You will be surprised at the pitch and diameter that the 300r will pull. Anything less than 32p on my Liberator is just useless. According to Merc you can run the sportmaster 300r about an inch higher than you would normally run a XS w/ sporty.

Cool boat! Are you just testing the motor for Fallon or did you buy it?

Are you sure about the rpm’s? I was banging off the rev limiter at 6350-6400 the first day out. I bought the motor from Fallon. Waiting to try it with the Torquemaster which my 300x had on it before the swap.

My motor was first ran by Randy Corson out in FL and it would hit the limiter at 4500 for a few hours, then 5500 for a few hours, then would go full tilt. He had to use a couple tanks of gas before it would go to 6400.

Id think you want the sportmaster on your boat? Just need to get it out of the water.

I’m running the sportmaster right now at 1” above the bottom. Hate the way the boat handles. Maybe I’m just use to the Torquemaster from the 300x. I was told the sportmaster works above 85mph. My boat will never run that number. 74-80 at best!

I don't see you being happy at those slow speeds. When are you going to order a new 400? :D

I couldn’t get myself to put 87 in, so i put 91. Lol

It’s really nice to not have to buy the oil and put it in the tank. It was always in my head that the oil injection would fail at some point. Nice to not worry about it now.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You wouldnt put 87 in a 91 octane motor so way the other way. A person risks carbon buildup up with a slower burning fuel. ( if there is a such a difference in 87 to 91, yes there is, then going backwards can hurt to.) I would go with what merc says!! I do understand computer management can change parameters but it does better at detuning to prevent knock
