I have a small dish next to my bed that I put my night time pill doses into. I also keep my foam earplugs in the dish. When I'm ready to go to sleep, I put my earplugs in, then tip the dish into my mouth and take the pills with some water.

Two nights ago I was a little distracted when I took my pills, and when I looked on the nightstand for my earplugs, I couldn't find them.

I'm pleased to report they have reappeared, although they're a different color now.

Years ago I had a large/enormous German Shepard Dog. Loved that critter.
Anyway when he was 2 ish Cindy had the idea to put these fake cookies on the Christmas Tree for decorations. They smelled like Oatmeal, etc.
Had Christmas tree imprinted on them., little place for a light in back, whatever.
Then she put tinsel on it...the plastic kind.
Next morning the fake cookie ornaments are gone. all 4 of them.
Dog appeared to have a stomach ache, when I took him out for his morning constitutional, guess what?
Fake plastic cookie and tinsel.
Called the Vet...he laughed, said yep third call this year, just watch him.
For a week his poop was laced with tinsel. One night he came in and had a string of it on/in his hind end. I could tell he knew want was up, and that his pride as a bad ass was hurt. He still kicked ass on both Pit Bulls the idiot neighbor had about 2 weeks later, which was hilarious.
Guy saw wife when he moved in and told her to keep our GSD on our place cause he "couldn't be responsible if our dog got out and his dogs got ahold of him"
Imagine his surprise when his dogs snuck through the 4 wire barb wire on the outer pasture fence and my dog went through the fence, past the steers (his pals) and had one by the neck, completely off the ground, and was chasing the other one whilst shaking the first to damn near to death by the time I got out there.
Went over to the fence separating my pasture from the road, (his place on other side of the road) and called my dog off.
I looked at him and said "Listen, guy, I can't be responsible for what happens if your dogs get loose and onto my property, he considers those steers his pals, and he won't tolerate it.. And..by the way, you were lucky he got to them before I did. I see them in my pasture again and I am going to shoot them, quickly, and bring them back to you to deal with. Read the law on livestock if you need to"
He chained them up after that.
My dog got his pride back that day...never ate fake cookies again.

That Dog is close to what ours was, he was gonna be a K9 officer but the funding failed after I bought him outta my own pocket and paid for first stages of our "team training". He was a bit blacker, and had the golden/yellow eyes that made people think he was not to be trifled with. He wasn't, they were 'right, but if he knew you he was very friendly...he was a pup when our eldest son was born and slept under his crib until the boy grew out of it.
Ya did not want to mess with my eldest son if he was around. Son could pull his tail, he would just look at me like "Dad, can ya get him to stop this deal?"
I had no problem leaving the boys and wife at home with him when I was working nights.
Sometimes I think about getting another one, but it would be hard for a dog to live up to my memories of Rommel. That, and I don't have the energy to train another one. He was Schutzhund, bred back 5 generations and no hip problems. When he was 5 he started showing signs of Hip Displaysia. It was confirmed by 3 specialists, including one at UCD, who cried with me when he explained the state of the disease and what we could do for him and what to expect...and when to help him go.
That cost the breeder a fortune in certifications lost.
It is ultimately what caused me to put him down at 8. I could not watch him suffer. His heart was still strong and his desire to serve us, and be part of our family was unstoppable, he would try to do things he couldn't do anymore, and that about killed me.
It broke our hearts. Son still can't talk about him without tearing up and he has been gone nearly 25 years.

I've said it before, but you really do have a gift for storytelling. I believe my post would've said "had a dog once that ate a fake cookie" 🤔 😅

You named him after the desert fox??

@Flyinbowtie
to connect your Jack Daniels thread with this one. I would love to have a book of your stories to read while sipping my Jack out on the patio in the evenings 👍

He, rrrr, TPC, old rigger and a few others. Dave (or one of his minions) should curate those posts into a blog.

We started off finding out about RRRR's potential butt plug starter kit...and moved towards hero dogs...and their sad demise...
There is a reason I like reading here, something for everyone, at any time. Always able to shift your moods!

Anyone play quarters back in the day? You know, where you bounce a quarter off the table into a glass of beer and make someone slam the glass of beer.
Well, I swallowed more than one quarter doing so. I never tried to retrieve one after the fact but I’m pretty sure there aren’t any quarters in my belly.
