I ran the BFG Baja tire on my truck when I drove a lifted truck. They aren’t so great in the road (wear fast). But they are great on the dirt and didn’t cause a bunch of road noise. They aren’t made for mud etc but I never drove in mud.

I was never a fan of the MTs because I don’t like the look of all the agro tread. And don’t need the traction of soft dirt since we basically only have hard dirt.

Have 37" Milestars on our JL, had them on the previous JK. No Complaints here, plenty of traction even climbing in Moab. I put them on my Superduty and took them off and replaced with Ridge Grapplers. Don't think they are suited for towing heavy felt like they wandered the road to much, on the Jeep they do well.

One more note to muddy the water:

BFG MT is the only MT im aware of, that’s available as OEM from the factory.

They’re also premium priced…which makes sense, as BFG is essentially Michelin’s off-road brand tire.
I had one of the first sets of BFGs “new design All Terrain KO2…(on a street driven truck, for the most part) they made it about 17,000 miles before chunks started falling off and at 20,000 they were ready for replacement. BFG offered me a $15 credit toward a new set of tires.

Fuck BFG.

I just put these ProComp 35 1250s AT E rated on my jeep. I just put them on last week so all I have done is drive them on the road to get home. So far super quiet on the road and they come with a 60,000 mile warranty.

BFKG KO3 is a light sticky tire....I just don't trust them for side wall cuts/tears. (seen too many branches or rocks cause issues)

They had the Goodyear Kevlars for a while (havent kept up to speed as i'm just now back in the jeep game) that were a good happy medium but wore poorly.

I have had nothin g but good luck with Toyo and Nitto. Yes they are heavy and yes they might not be as grippy at 20lbs as the BFG but in all the off-roading I have done I have never had a sidewall issue. You can aim for a rock and you are still getting off the trail.

Had those on my JKUR.
They lasted 35k miles and warranty did not cover it. 15k of that was off-road (very rocky trails, limited sand / fire roads) and the tires got abused (chunks removed from tread, etc). They ended up getting way too loud for mall / beach crawling on pavement for the wife and got replaced :)

Unless things have changed…those Projects aren’t DOT/street legal, and are bias-ply so they flat-spot when sitting.

They’ve also been hard to get in the past…

Have things changed?

There is still value to running a Load Range E tire on a lightweight off-road vehicle. While the carcass will not be as flexible as an equivalent tire in a lower load range, the air pressure can be lowered to account for this. The reason the carcass is less flexible is because of heavier construction that fends off punctures off-road.

That's what I was gonna post about the Bajas

I think MT is a misnomer.
These aren’t just for mud, these are for vehicles that spends a significant amount of time off-road.

An AT or Hybrid, by comparison, is for vehicles that are predominantly driven on-road, and occasionally off-road. That’s why they have such good on-road manners.

If you want the heaviest, most robust tire construction in a given size, it’s going to be an MT versus AT or Hybrid.

While light tires have their place, heavy tires also have their place.

They are hard to get - and they are soft.

Re: DOT, I never asked!

But since DB said she was going to do very little road use and mostly off road I thought of this tire. Quiet when on the street, great off road capability and I always liked the look of these vs knobby mudders.

No question, it’s a great high speed desert tire 👍

Innovated Tire Solutions when you decide what tire. He is in N W Phoenix and he will order and come to you to install. Save the hassle of sitting at the tire store.

I hear great things about the copper discovery tires
Yep!! I have 37’s on my Raptor. Been through the BFG’s, Toto’s and Nitto ridge grapplers.. none made it past about 35k miles, and most were square 🙄. I have 30k on these Coopers, and they don’t even look halfway down now… and they’re actually round 😁

Yikes. BFG AT KOs are great all round tires but not in mud or snow from what I've experienced. Their lugs fill up instantly and turn into spinning donuts
I agree if you in the mud and snow everyday. Plus Jeeps with 37” or plus mud tractor tires are not fun long distance pavement drivers on 5-6hr trips out to wherever your going.

I chose TerraGrappler 2’s for one big reason … they were quiet going down the road … compared to some that you couldn’t even hear the radio going 45 mph. Just my 2 cents. 🍻

IMHO M/T tires need regular rotations (more so than regular tires) and re-balances to keep them quiet, in addition to even treadwear.

Every 5k like clockwork for me 👍

Ended up going with the Toyo MTs. I'm super happy with them. They seem really smooth and quiet 👍 Not sure why, but they appear larger than the 35s that we had on before - maybe it's just because they aren't worn down, but they don't appear much smaller than the 37s that we have on the truck.

Anyway, thanks all for the input 😊
