We are looking to get a new Jeep to go to a 4 door for easier access to the read seats for family and friends. When pricing out just a new Jeep alone we are up around $60k so what is another $30k on top of that? This will be used around town and light off-reading as well as road trips every now and then. Any input/thoughts would be appreciated.

I really like my Jeep and enjoy what's it's capable of and where it takes us. 90k is still a gagger for Jeep but they are pretty cool and I think they will be pretty rare if you end up selling it.

Says nobody who has one.

They rock. But the suspension sucks. Easy to fix, just throw more money at it. Super happy with mine now.
What have you done to your to make it right for you?

My 392 is an XR so wheels and gears perfect for 37’s. I added a Metal Cloak 3.5” game changer suspension and Fox 3.0 internal bypass shocks. That fixed the suspension. Did a bunch of other stuff and into it about a buck and a quarter but it’s just what I want. Skids, bumpers, winch, fridge, storage etc. Very nice on mountain Jeep trails but it’s still not a replacement for a Raptor or anything.

I’ve had a few Jeeps over the years, mostly weekend rigs. When I bought my four door Jk as an everyday driver I was a little concerned it would get old fast. Three years in I’m still loving it! Can’t go wrong with the four door Jeep. I think you may have some negotiating power on a standard engine model today. The 392 is bad ass but will definitely cost you.

I start getting into six digit territory and I start leaning towards a new C8 Corvette.

It all really depends on how you are going to use the jeep. If it will be a mall crawler, just get the standard V6 and gear it. If you plan on running it as an overlander pulling a trailer, or going big power, big axles, sand dune or mud bogging, then go with the 392. I only know a few people with them. They both love them, but don't use them anywhere near the potential they were built for. Read Baja-Chris's post above... he is in the 6 figure numbers on his jeep and I can only imagine it wasn't too hard to get there with the base price of the 392.

Check the two rating to see if it was you need. And remember, long distance these are not so comfortable. This is the single reason I choose the RAM 1500 Diesel over the Gladiator, comfort and towing capability. As an unrelated example, the new full size Bronco only tows 3,500 pounds.

Within the next year a wrangler will be available with an in-line six nearing 500 hp with TwinTurbo‘s. Supposed to be super efficient and powerful.
Are they basing it off the old Straight 6 that lasted for decades? Not sure about a turbo for crawling, but I can see the benefit of going back to the proven base and building from there.

Overlander pulling a trailer? A 392 sounds like a terrible option for that. What’s the range on these offroad without a trailer? 200 miles? Even less with a trailer..

That being said, these are bad ass. Get one. I’m surprised it’s not in the Gladiator yet.

We’ve had lots of jeeps and lucky to have a friend who was a lead engineeer at jeep on the all the wranglers and gladiators

For light off roading and around town 3.6 all day long.

The shit box mods I see around town ( a lot of which were set up new at the dealer ) make your eyes roll. Keep it simple with quality mild upgrades that are proportional. If you are going with larger tires get the 4:10 gears.

There’s enough demand for them to put them in the gladiator. However, I don’t think they have enough engines so it will likely only continue as an option in the wrangler.

For the kind of money they’re charging for that Wrangler, the TRex is a lower cost MSRP option, and as was mentioned, the C8 Corvette and other vehicles are at similar price points

I’d buy a Gladiator today if it came in the 392 V-8 drivetrain. Probably will never happen with all the fossil fuel hate

For the life of me I don’t get the 4xe.

A whole second motor, cost, weight ( 2.5 tons) and complexity to go 20 miles on a charge that cost about the same as gas to charge for those 20 miles. Add tires ac and some passengers and its in the teens. Why, what am I missing.

You are focused on one part of it which many honestly don’t get use from… it’s the 375hp, 470tq for me..regardless of the plug in capabilities it is a hybrid vehicle. It’s just shy of 60k for a rubicon sticker price… before tax credits.

I’m not big on the full electric stuff but have been onboard and owning PHEV type for years…my x5 is a phev…it’s quick, full of torque and the AC works leaps and bounds better than my last diesel one as it’s ran by the high voltage battery.

Yes, think overland trailer. Not a tow it to the river, blast the ac, and cook inside of it trailer.

And offroading under electric power is ideal - more, instant torque and quiet operation on the trail

Buy what you like/want, not what everyone else thinks you should have........I sold plenty of vehicles to people who purchased them based on a friend and/or peer pressure that ended up not liking the car.
.
I put this in the same catagory as building your dream house to accommodate the 3 visitors you "might" get in a years time instead of for yourself. A 5k sqft home is a tad much for 2 retirees, no?

I hear you Ziggy and I will buy untimely what I want. My thoughts are that I don’t know the pros and cons of the 392. I don‘t want to just go with what the manufacturer says. As for on road driving you can not have too much power but I wasn’t sure that is the case off road too. Especially when off reading will be limited to nothing very seriously. I am leaning to a regular Jeep then a SXS for off-road duties. Yepp I said duties🤪😜🤪😜

Gen did say she wants to get a Rzr ride in both front & rear seats to see if it's something she could handle. I'd refrain from any double or triples to make it easier on her, lmao🤪🤣🤣

I figured, but still. Looking like well below 10 offroad without the trailer and even less when pulling an overland trailer. I watch a bit of Trailrecon and he has one with a sweet Patriot trailer. 15/16 mpg highway isn’t bad if you keep it under 70

You’re welcome. Check out his other vids as well. I think he just dumped a 4xe, and also has a Gladiator and Bronco. Hard to keep up as he rotates through.

The 392 is an all wheel drive Quadra track to split up some of the torque of that BiG OL V8 beast!

OH boy !! I want a 392 in a wrangler! But not for a $100 K

Yeah he noted that in the one video. Very interesting to hear his views of each model. Definitely have a lot of info. Get a view units to to take a look at once back in town and traveling. Going to interesting to see them and how our year ends out business wise that is going to be the main factor. Don’t really need this vehicle other than strictly fun and purposeful travel to places like Moab and other areas I want to visit this winter with the wife on several day/weekend trips.

Interesting on the AWD. Yeah, the price is rather high but so is just a Rubicon. We will see where the pricing is on new and lightly used units.

Buy it, you won't regret it. We love ours, $84k at Martin Swanty in Kingman. We ordered ours how we wanted it, and it took right at 4 months. The damn thing is a rocket! I have a MetalCloak 3.5 Gamechanger on it and Fox 2.0's (which i am gonna upgrade before our next trip to moab) and it handles great. Much more refined than our JKU.

No FAD though 😁.

Besides the increase in power, the 392 ditches the pos FAD. That’s a huge plus IMO.
Just truss the front axle.

I like the option of being able to run down the road in 4x2 for that extra mpg.

Just don't plan on running a SxS in the dunes. I don't care which one it is!!!

Oh yes, I know plenty of people do it, but I think a 90 quad would be more fun. 🙄

They are Very capable hard pack machines, but the power to weight ratio is totally wrong for the sand.

Plus they just ain't built tough enough...

Thanks for pointing that out. No plans at this time to head to the dunes at this point. Just putting around Havasu and the crounding area and going out from there.

A SxS would be great for that, if what you want to do is haul azz.

If you want to go slow, take your time, enjoy some climate control, the views and talk to your friends (without screaming or wearing a helmet), a jeep would be a better choice.
