We were out there too, off Boone with the thousands of other people. I actually came back and started looking at property out there. Looks like it was nice and quiet where you stayed. The wife and I were in bed by 7 on New Years eve (too much the night before and we're getting old) however were awoken several times by the thousands of fireworks going off. Had not been to JV in a long time and had a great time. There is a ton of cool shit out there to see!

I couldn't believe all the fireworks people had going off just over the hill from us, was like Disneyland, we had some good ones but nothing like that. I want to go back and do a bunch more site seeing!

We were about 2 miles in off of Camp Rock!
Would love to try this area some time. I'm not real big in to camping with crowds, but i don't mind driving into them to see the shit show. I'm suppose to head to the hammers with a buddy (i've never been and it is on bucket list) and he said we are going to stay at cougar buttes. Hoping this won't be too crowded and then we can drive into hammer town if COVID is not still popping off and restricting access.

CB is at the West end of Johnson Valley, KOH is at the East end (Boone Rd). Your drive from CB to KOH will be about 45 minutes each way (30 miles), so If the purpose of your trip is to check out the KOH trails and Hammer Town, then I'd suggest camping closer. There are LOTS of people that go out for the day and drink beer all day, then drive home on Hwy 247 and Hwy 18. That road is really bad for accidents on a normal day, but adding the KOH traffic makes it way worse. You can camp off Boone Rd all by yourself, but still be a short drive to the trails and Hammer Town.

You will definitely want to check out the 2 main trails that everyone runs at night, take a cooler and some firewood and watch people attempt to not completely destroy their vehicles. Back Door and Chocolate Thunder are both within 5-10 minutes of Hammer Town, and are also the main spots to watch the races during the day.

Thank you for the information. I did not realize how far they were from each other. We may need to rethink our camping spot. That is really the main reason we are going is to watch backdoor and chocolate thunder. I've seen videos and it look like great entertainment 😁
