Can anyone recommend a good place for upholstery? Would like some one that does a great job for a reasonable price. Need to get the seats done.

Where you located? I would talk to Outdrive1 here on the boards if you are close to the Phoenix area. He just did mine.

"a great job for a reasonable price"

This phrase is contrary to RDP policy I think... help me here RD, JBB Bilgie?

Must be high end, forget the cost and do it mind set!

Just kidding..:D:D

Where is the boat?

Problem is being on a fixed budget. I dont mind spending the money for good work, just dont want to over spend.

It seems most of the spectra's here are the smaller variety. Is there a good site for the 32's

My guess is that you'll get as much info on the 32 here (as soon as Racey chimes in) as you will in any other site.

You may wanna PM Racey as he has lots of info on them (his Dad still owns the 32 molds).

Hey Racey........pick up the white courtesy phone.......

Racey is in the head talkin to Tom Brown maybe.... he knows good '32 info. Another one for sale in Needles I saw on CL today... will find the post.

More than a few of us were in and out of Burbank Marine when the Big Girl first popped out of the molds back in the day.

Look forward to your purchase, rehabilitation of the '32 and photos of the project. Congrats on a true piece of history:party2:

got the boat Saturday, other than old gas it runs and sounds great.
I am going to have to fix one outdrive. the U-joint on the outdrive is busted, well actually the yoke attached to the out drive is. I am going to have to take off the outer bell housing and and have it and the piece attached to the gimbal welded up to fix the ridge the bellows attaches to.

Got the seats and the floor ripped out, found termites and a lot of rot in the floor. got a friend that is going to use the old seat frames as a pattern to make new one. Then have those covered. and use the old floor as a pattern to make new one.

I figure I can make it all out of marine grade plywood then paint with deep penetrating epoxy before its covered. should last a long time that way.

I thought I was going to only need a small part of headliner replaced, but going to do whole thing. only makes sense.

Had an idea on the sun pad. want to see if they can make it out of somekind of sealed foam for the inside and that way I can take it off and use a large float. Dont know if it will work, but why the hell not.

Sorry got to much into working on it and forgot to take pics. will do that this coming weekend.

Damn thing is gonna be expensive on gas.:drunk

Ok, I will get some. I 2 on my phone and I will post them. I just want to kill some of these suppliers. Why does it take so long for them to figure out that they dont have the parts then call/email 2 weeks later to let me know it will be another 2 weeks before they even get the parts.

Here are some more. Ok, I have seen the velvet drives and I have seen the borg warners and the merc 2. My boat mechanic has seen them also. But what the hell do I have for transmissions. They are the last 2 picks. They look like some old chevy 2 speed power glides but not sure. Yes they are automatics or at least they use ATF.

Now its all making sense. I was wondering why there were Morse Twin S Top Mount Controls vs. MT-3 Top Mount or U-Flex B104 style controls. Not to mention why there was an additional hole in the dash about the size of the shifter controls, in front of the throttles.

My original thought was that the boat was at one time owned by an individual who was accustomed to running a twin engine ocean boat, and had moved the shift controls to their present location for easier maneuverability around the dock, marina, and launch ramp.

But if the boat has multi-speed transmissions, I understand the the current throttle & shift setup. As up-shifting while applying power, with the shifters in-front of the throttles could be awkward.

The transmission looks like a cut down/smaller version of the 2SPG, but I'm not certain.

Have you shifted the transmission controls to see how many detents you have?

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Yes, there is only 3. forward, neutral and reverse. I have even looked at the linkage but it seems to be the same.

Gonna fix the hole with some of the Formica that looks like leather. redo the whole dash with it. should look nice.

That case looks like a torqueflite by chrysler... When I worked for Art Carr back in the day we used to make tons of those things with just one speed and a spline drive adapter... I could almost say it for sure! Yep just double checked, we made the transmissions and put a shorty kit tail housing and that bellhousing adapter bolted on with the front pump bolts... I will see if I can find info in my old papers at home tonight...

That is definitely it. So were they single speed or 2 speed? was there any advantage to them? or was it just a tranny to give reverse and neutral? if at a later date, could it be made into a 2 speed?

Thanks for checking on the info for me. would have never thought it was a Chrysler tranny.

It is actually a three speed from the factory, you can get them built as single speeds as you stated you have all the way up to the three speeds... They also offer different gear ratios in all three options... These transmissions are bullet proof, this is what came behind hemi cars... We used to build them to easily handle over 2000+ HP! They use what we called a damper plate between the engine and the spline drive, they had rubber or nylon inserts you may want to check that out to make sure it is ok too... Art Carr is still around, you can call him at his place here in HB called California Transmissions. He can give you the entire history...

Finally got the boat in the water Saturday. Had some issues. Had a leak at the transom exhaust and had one engine that did not want to run correctly. It sounded like popcorn and everytime I put it in forward it would die. Well traced the problem to the distributor and plugs. So replaced it with an HEI distributor. Now motor runs great. Fixed leak with 5200. I have through hull exhaust so not worried about the transom exhaust as long as it doesnt leak.

In a couple of weeks gonna get the interior done. Just have not found someone yet. Need to call the guy earlier in this post though so I can talk to him.

Gonna take it out again Saturday for a trial run number 2. Anybody gonna be around Newport harbor then let me know I might need a tow back:grumble::grumble: This weekend planning on seeing how it does at speed.

Ok, took it out Saturday for another trial run. could only get the starboard engine upto 2600 rpm. I need to rebuld the carbs. But at 2600rpm my gps was showing 48 mph. And it rides like a dream even on 5 foot swells. Did manage to get it airborn but it took the wake from a 65 footer plowing a lot of water to do it.

Those are pretty easy to do. The only hard part is you need three hands, when putting the lids back on!

You seem to be pretty handy with tools. Should be easy for you. :thumbsup

I will try to get more pictures. I tend to do everything myself and I just dont think about stopping to take pictures.

When I get started I have a goal for that day and I do everything it takes to make it. Pics are the last thing on my mind.

I have never been able to get a quad to work right. I do like them, they can do just as good or better than some holleys when they are right. but they need delicate hands and I dont have that.

Ok i found I have a depth sounder mounted to the hull in the bilge. Wires were cut and the wires on the gauge was cut also. Can I just redo the wires and have it work or is there another piece I need. Im not sure of the brand, I need a midget to repel down into the cavern and have a look see. Hell light just barely makes down to the bottom of it.

It really Depends on the System (Transducer and the Gauge)

Older systems have 1 (multi wire) cable that runs directly from the transducer to the gauge. If this is the case then all you do (providing the old cable has not been removed) is reconnect the matching wires on both ends.

Newer systems have a seperate cables that run from the transducer & gauge to a computer box. If everything is there its shouldnt be to difficult to put back together. However if your missing components you might consider scrapping the whole thing.

Post some pictures of what you got when you get a change.

Damn thought I was gonna have to buy a trim pump for one of my tabs. So I took it out and took it apart to check the bushings on the armature and found I was missing a brush. Well Now what are the odds this is the problem?

the brush that was still there was just a little nub. So a trip to Ace hardware found some brushes that fit. Put them in and the damn thing works fine now.

So the brushes only cost me 4.80, cant beat that.

well, Ran the boat hard on Friday. It will do around 85. 3000 rpm is 62 mph and max rpm is 4700, I think this is being limited by the spark arestors on the carbs. they are small and limiting the air flow. I was to scared to look at the gps at wot. Will take a few more times before I am confident enough to look at gps. Plus out in the ocean, was to busy looking for swells.

got in late Friday night. didn't have time to flush the engines so did it Saturday morning. Reaching into the bottom of the bilge to close the valves so I could use the hose connection. I broke a rib. damn thing hurts like hell. Its the bottom rib so cant even wrap it.
