What age did you start taking your kid in your UTV/buggies. I have seen a kid in a rear facing car seat in Glamis but I’m not crazy enough to do that. My oldest is 2 1/2 and 30LBS and 36 inches, I’m trying to figure out when we should start exploring the kid bucket seats that insert into the bigger seats. I’m thinking next season at 3 1/2?

My youngest started when she was 4 and her sister was 7. Both kids sat on a PRP rear bench seat with the PRP foam boosters using 4 point PRP seatbelts. They never complained riding back there. I didn't driver too crazy with them though.

We started my son at about 18 months.

About 2 years old you can throw them in a forward facing seat. Buy a cheap car seat, set it in the bucket seat and strap it securely to the frame of the car. That works until they are 4-5.

Now at 5 and 9 both mine sit on PRP foam booster cushions in the stock seat using a 2 inch 4 point harness.

I used this, and cut the bottom with a dremel to fit the seat and sit more upright.

I grew up riding on the front of my Grandpas “310”R threewheeler, he had a gas cap with miniature handle bars I would hold on to lol. I must have been 3-4 when I started doing it, now parents would be crucified and this was only in the 90s. Crazy how fast times change.

Just keep in mind that helmets are required for them, and ensure that they have the neck strength to wear one, keeping in mind the jarring and motion that they go through. Make sure it's properly sized, and consider getting support collars. until they're older and develop sufficient neck strength.

I’m thinking a 170 around 5 years old or so. Grandma wants her grandkids in a cage even though she was fun with my riding a quad out there at 3😂

A bungee cord can help support their head In the helmet a bit too.

One may have a hard time with support collars and helmets. There was simply not enough room to run the neck collar with a helmet on my son when he was young.

Our biggest challenge was getting them to wear goggles, and then to get him to know how to fix them himself when they moved around.

We’ve found that snowboard helmets worked best for our kids. Very light and fit tighter than bike helmets.
I’m buying him a Stacyc for Christmas so I planned on getting him a MX helmet. Hopefully that will help him build some neck muscle and get used to wearing a helmet by next season.

My 2 year old will be in the back seat of my rail this weekend in a car seat. Goggles, ear muffs and a neck brace, we'll see how long any of those last on him. At most we'll go from wash 4 to olds.

I started my first born at a year and a half and my youngest is a year and 2 months and she’s been in my buggy the last 4 weekends in glamis. I don’t drive hard with them in the car we just cruise. They are both forward facing in sparco racing car seats.

we started out boy at just over a year. He absolutely loves it.

I strap the car seat to the bucket with a ratchet strap and reach over to brace his head if we are going through anything rough. I bungee to the helmet would really help.

We tried the bike helmet route first but the kids dome is way too big.

my daughter was about 9 months old in a buggy, rear facing car seat ratchet strapped to the chassis. Had one of those neck donuts on... she’d be asleep within a few minutes of the ride.

We’ll take our kids 75mph on a freeway riddled with whack-a-moles but off-road cars that maybe see 35mph is a concern lol

All kidding aside my kids were infants, maybe 7 months old. They slept more than they were awake. Now that they’re 19 & 12 they still sleep like an RD on an epic boating adventure in the Florida Keys hahahaha

First time I put my son (pictured above) in the Rhino he fell asleep so fast I thought he passed out. We were just on the streets. He’s looking around yelling and talking one minute then slumped over 30 seconds later.

I laugh about it now but was freaked out in the moment. Pulled over pulled his helmet off and woke him up, he was fine.

I think my sons first rhino ride was at 2-3 months old. We took him to dumont and just cruised the flats.

Take it easy and be pretty much slept.

We waited until he was 2 y/o to start bombing the whoops and dunes…haha

We did the same exact thing with our son at around 2yrs old. At the time our daughter was 7ish so we just strapped her in with a PRP booster seat. Last year I bought them a 2 seat CanAm (ages 14 and 19)... Now they try and chase me, have to be careful when he's driving he will stay right on my bumper, the wife hates it. Hahahahaha.

Whatever you do, get them wrist restraints or window nets to keep their arms inside in case of a rollover.

Motivation for wrist restraints / nets:

My son was 1 up in Mammoth and loved it, Rangers were out handing maps out and didn't say a word but this was in 2012. Can't get him out of the RZR now and he always wears his wrist restraint.

My 6 month old son rides is the UTV all over glamis in a carseat facing forward. Obviously taking it slow and easy. Mom rides in the back seat with him and holds his head up if need be. He has a super light weight helmet that fits him perfectly along with a pair of 100% Jr sized goggles. He LOVES it. He was also in the boat at 2 weeks old 🤷🏻‍♂️

A friend of mine would ratchet strap his sons head to the roll cage because it would roll around with his helmet on. First couple times his boy would wake up thinking he was paralyzed and freaking out. 😂

Both my kids started in a forward facing Recaro car seat. I used two 2” ratchet straps then strapped the kid in, and then the buggy 5 point over the car seat. They boy was one maybe even 11 months old. We just obviously cruised a slower pace, and now daughter 13 son will be 7 in a few days and both still absolutely love the buggy.

Something that may help as well...if you can find a smaller neck pillow or c pillow put it on your kid backwards so it supports the chin or chin area of the helmet.

Not sure exact age but as soon as I could ratchet strap a car seat in it was time 🤣. Our oldest boy was out in the desert in the bronco at just a few weeks old. They love it!

My old ranger crew I machined out the seatbelt slots and installed them across the rear bench so we could snap in 3 car seats.. lol

So…. Pretty young is my answer.
