Ive been holding back posting on this -

This is A VERY close family friend and an old work colleague that owns and was driving the boat - his granddaughter was the one the was killed.

It's hard to imagine a more difficult situation. He moved there after he retired and after talking to him recently he just can't bring himself to go back to live there.

Just too many bad memories.

The dcb thread talks about people speeding and close calls / in this situation he was practically idling when his boat was run over - the other boat going no more than 50...

You don't have to be going 150 to have bad shit happen.

His daughter and her family are residents of Carlsbad.

Reading through the counts in the linked article I have no idea how the jury found him not guilty on several, particularly the ones which would have resulted in a deserved longer sentence.

It looks like he'll do less than 10, which is a goddamn shame.
