I’ve been watching these guys for awhile, but after yesterday’s experience I feel it’s time to discuss what they actually do.
Make no mistake about it. We were Hunted yesterday by the Lake Mead Rangers. As we were leaving Cottonwood a ranger boat approached (I sat for a few minutes waiting for the lights but they never turned on), found out later that that boat followed us all the way to Willow Beach (2 rangers onboard). Went through Willow and had an AZ state boat watching and tracking us. Past that boat was an Old, dirty diesel patrol boat (which left a cloud of exhaust fumes) who chased us to the Dam and complained that he couldn’t see registration numbers clearly enough and that we didn’t give kayaks enough room (mind you he was following with twice the wake of any of us and didn’t come off plane).

There was a total of 8 boats with families having fun on a lake that they had paid their entry fee to be on. The Park service sent 3 boats and 6 officers to harass us.

This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if they actually did their job sometimes.
I go to Lake Mead and/or Mohave at least twice a week. They do nothing about 18 ppl on a 20’ boat (I’ve watched them drive right by). They never stop and educate people who leave “skier down” flags affixed to their towers. They don’t stop people from cutting in line at the ramp, but they show up with 8 rangers after the fight ensues.
They bring pallets out to keep their boots clean when closing off an area around the “body in a barrel” and leave them there, along with the caution tape that is still flying in the weeds today.

They trolled this site to harass good family boaters while they let chaos ensue every weekend around them. That actually seemed most upset because they couldn’t pin anything to us. THEY PICKED THE WRONG GROUP of Prepared, educated, and Sober boaters. Most of us said “Don’t you want to see my type IV throwable?” When they gave up during their “Safety Check”.

I’m starting to think the park service is run by the FBI.

🖕🏻To the angry Red beard Leprechaun looking ranger who is most likely the troll on here. He was super pissed. I’d gues 34-40 yrs old.

Let’s not forget, they could build Permanent ranger stations with holding cells at both Telephone Coves and Gator beach and be busy all day. They don’t want that. They’re not there for safety of the park and public. They are there for the easiest pay check with the least effort. Kayak babysitting people paddling down the middle of a river/highway.

They know damn well where to be to make a difference. Instead they harassed 8 families as low hanging fruit.

I wonder if that was SReed (or whatever his name was on here). He was a ranger, or a cop, or game warden, or something. He did a lot of shitty things, and finally got kicked off the site.

EDIT: I saw above it was SRice, not SReed. I thought he was also Gmac, but wasn't sure.

The first two rules of policing today :

1. We don’t fight crime, we just monitor it. We all know where the crime is, and we don’t go there either.

2. Law abiding citizens don’t have as good of lawyers as criminals and immigrants so we ignore those groups and go after those who pay our salaries.

You may be surprised at how much power they actually have . I have had my share of interaction with them mostly negative. Most of them are just lazy and arrogant. I have been boating on mead and Mohave for 50 years and have seen the transformation in the park service .

The red beard is just pissed because his dick is 4" long, hasn't been laid in years and he only has his gamer buddies to hang out with after hours.

They pulled me over leaving Mohave a couple years ago and tried to pin a DUI on me. Fuck off I refused everything and they threatened to haul me in and said it was 2 hours to the station. I said lets go I got nothing better to do.

So they harass me and lie to me etc and finally they let me go. Then they pulled their dick move of confiscating a bucket of rocks a female friend had collected on the lake that weekend. You can’t take those they told us as if there is a rock shortage in the desert.

@Riley1 this is nothing new. They’ve been dicks since the 80’s.

When I was a kid we used to go fishing on Mohave in the 80’s. My brother and I would fish and my dad would not. He’d buy us all the stuff, and the licenses. But he wasn’t fishing so he didn’t buy himself a license. We typically fished down by the dam off our boat. Well one time one of us got our fishing line stuck so my dad came over to help clear it. He had the pole for like a minute before handing it back. Well ol Mr Lake Mead Ranger guy had been sitting in a nearby bay apparently watching us fish. He comes over and gives my dad a ticket for fishing without a license.

I think my dad even went to court on that, but essentially the judge told him if you hold the pole that’s fishing and as you didn’t have a license you got what you got.

So clearly they aren’t interested in making sure people have fun and want to come back. They want to make you never come back.

Of course we did come back, and still do, but my opinion of the floating police isn’t a good one. They are pretty much the entrapment police, going through their checklist on everyone trying to find something that will stick.

We were just talking about this yesterday. The amount of work they could be doing to actually make things better, versus giving the good boaters shit. Not to mention most every one of them looks like they just ate a shit sandwich.

Ranger jobs don't pay that well; they are not attracting talent. Angie thought it would be a great job for her until we looked at the pay grades. We are asking a lot of our Rangers; at one time, I believe these jobs were considered one of the most dangerous in America. I would rather Angie not work than take a job like that for so little pay.

As a result, we are getting what we are paying for when we visit our public lands; in some cases, the people taking these jobs are activists who don't do it for the pay. In many cases, I have to imagine they harass people they are jealous of when it comes to performance boats and offroad vehicles. I suspect most are unsatisfied with the career choices they have made, are likely saddled with student loan debt, and would rather no one was out recreating so they could enjoy the backcountry of our nation alone.

I agree; they are like the FBI and almost every other bureaucracy. They need to be torn down and rebuilt. Please include the BLM in those crosshairs. They are the most worthless of the bunch.

Defund every federal department as far as I am concerned. Let the Sheriff's be the law of the land.

I had looked into the ranger thing when I moved up here. Needed a college degree to even apply now. When I went on a couple bid walks for commercial firewood cuts, it was very obvious who was who. The older guys would be more accommodating, with access and cut requirements. The younger guys wanted it to look like an untouched meadow...rake the twigs and stumps cut under 4"
The younger set, seem to be crusaders of the green agenda. No, this is dealing with forestry folks, not the parks guys. I wouldn't think they'd be much different though.

Unfortunately in the eyes of enforcement there are no good boaters, just good kayakers and canoeists.

Another episode I had of “targeting “ was on Havasu. I’m driving our old 21 jet boat. In the boat are my father and like three of his friends. Except me, everyone else is an AARP card carrying silver haired guy. I haven’t had a drop to drink.

We went up to the channel to show them that, then on the way back we stop at copper canyon to show them that as well. At copper, there are patrolling boats everywhere. We go slightly in and turn around and come out. On the way out the patrol guy flags me down and tells me to come over to them. They then proceed to do a field sobriety test on me.

I was a little confused why I got pulled over but after thinking about it, they singled me out to make a statement to everyone else about checking but figured I’d be a safe example and not have to be processed which would mean leaving station.

I just stay away from those areas now.

My experience on water is anytime a patrol boat sees you and he ain’t busy your gonna get pulled over or expect to be safety checked. Doesn’t matter if sheriff fish police ranger etc.

I been through the early mid 90s copper canyon as well. And had the you made a wake excuse used I sure as hell know I didn’t either but they called a ripple a wake then too.

mt experience at Mead has been watching the rangers sitting a few hundred yards or more off shore, with binoculars "sizing up" their choice of targets.

I’ve been watched with binoculars by Fish and Game going through the Gorge to Topock . Looks like we’re being profiled .

I nice letter to their commanding officer commending & giving appreciation for their escort upriver to keep them safe seems apropos 😊😇. Making sure they know we're glad they spent our tax/registration dollars on us for a change. 😊

Every time I stand on the bow of my boat fishing my wife yells out here they come .
I get out the fenders as they always want to run into the side of the boat. I spend the next 20 min showing all my safety shit. Then they ask for my fishing license that I buy every year. Sometimes the same ranger 2x in the same day. I always ask why not check me at the launch ramp where it would save a life I then comment to them I forgot you guys are looking for revenue.

I have looked for past 2 days on the
“NO WAKE PASSING PADDLE BOARDS”
So says the redhead curly fuck

Ain’t found shit
All I found was slow your speed as to not create excess wake
And they are considered paddle craft and must follow the navigation rules

Yet they never get “safety checked “
And travel as they please

Hope they are watching

Next years Dam Run is going to be of epic proportions I guess 80 boats or more
July 29 weekend 🤫

The ONLY good interaction I've had with Water Dogs is the young lady who patrols in Parker. I was respectful with her and she was the same way towards me. After she checked my license and asked a few other questions, we struck up a conversation that eventually led to this site. She was cool enough to even take a few staged photos for me as if lecturing me and giving me a ticket. I did it just to send the pictures to my wife to rile her up. 😜 After that one extremely positive interaction I had, it changed my outlook of them. I know there are bad apples in every bunch, so not taking away from those asshats. But not ALL of the water dogs are dicks.

Many years ago at Cottonwood Cove I got pulled into a checkpoint when headed back to the ramp in my 30' Magic I had at the time.

I was greeted by a not real pleasant female ranger who asked me several times if I had been drinking as she did the "safety check". I don't drink. Never have. She seemed real disappointed she wasn't going to get a DUI on this stop.

She asked me where my fire extinguisher was. Showed it to her. Then she asked how long the boat was. 30'. Asked me where my second fire extinguisher was because the boat is over 26'. Told her I didn't have a second one because on the list of required equipment the department of fish and game sends out in a brochure with my boat registration (that I used as a checklist) it only said one is required. No mention of length of the boat being a factor.

She wrote me a cite for not having two extinguishers and seemed happy about it. I'm a former cop, and some education instead of a cite might have been more appropriate in that situation. The level of unprofessionalism and "F-U, I don't think you should be on this lake" attitude was pretty remarkable.

I wrote the court in Searchlight about the deal and sent them a copy of the brochure. Judge actually wrote me back, dismissed the case, and said just make sure I get a second extinguisher. Easy.

Since then though, we have only been safety checked one or two times and the interactions with the rangers have been pleasant. I do wish they would put more emphasis on handling the real violators instead of those that might have more ability to pay though. I see plenty of DUI drivers at the end of the day heading up the hill out of Cottonwood with several kids, no boat behind them, and a BBQ in the bed of the truck. We all know the type.

Mohave sucks. Everybody should go to Havasu instead.

Park rangers start out thinking they are going to patrol Yellowstone/Yosemite/sequoia ect then they get sent to the desert or if they are a problem in some other area they get sent to the desert. Then they are pissed off and make waves until they are reassigned again. They do not sign up to be in the desert. They can enforce Federal and state/local laws in every state and at their discretion on what ones to hit you with.

Anyone else never had any interaction with Rangers/LEO on the water? Once they came by when I had my hatch up connecting a scan tool. i saw them eyeballing my cupholders which had either water or gatoraide in them. I told them I was good and off they went.

Lake Mohave is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. I guess they get more visitors annually than the Grand Canyon. Probably not this year due to the water levels. 🤷‍♂️

Seems like you should fire up the cell phone video and ask for badge numbers.

They have a job to do but I agree there should be a level of professionalism. Enforcing fishing licenses etc is their duty. Harassing boaters is a different subject.

Out of respect I’d send video to the department higher ups. If the same negative interactions continue then throw it on social media or send it to your local politicians.

Man I could go on and on about Mohave and incidents with the rangers out there in my Hondo.

I will just say I grew up on that lake and always loved it but the LEO there is different than anywhere else. They're even different than what I have run into on Mead. We hardly go there anymore and that is a big part of why. Everything you guys are saying makes sense. They let all the jackasses do whatever they want and trash the beaches but the law-abiding everyday boater gets singled out and it must just be a money grad. Sad!

My boat partner was chastised once for not waving the skier down flag vigorously enough. We are now conditioned to immediately curtail any water sports activities if those guys are in the area. It’s just not worth the hassle.

When i got arrested there and held for 2 hours because they assumed i was under the influence, i had a paper trail a mile long and all they contributed it to was the new guy conducting their FSTs.
They really don’t give a shit

You forgot to include, video taping the entire event, and collecting evidence of a a public gathering.
