Planning to go to lake Mead in August. I have never been. Where should I stay and where do I launch?
I was thinking about boating for two days and staying in a nearby hotel. What say the masses?

Thanks, Nicholas

Been boating at Mead for over 40 years.
We stay at the El Rancho in Boulder City. Launch down the hill at Hemenway.
Cruise through the lower basin and most the boaters and through The Narrows into the big basin and hang on the water or pull up onto Hallet Beach around the corner from Mid Point.
Enjoy!

You can stay at the Fiesta Henderson on lake Mead Parkway and launch at Boulder Harbor. The lake is way up from last year launching is excellent and no crowds.

Look at the "dam run" thread. It has hotels to stay and launching too

I second that easy and about 20 min. from the ramp depending how many lights you hit and how fast you drive!:thumbsup

just be sure to lock up everything in boat and/or remove valuables . Had friend who had his outdrive stolen at the Hacienda ! I like the El Rancho in Boulder City , old and nostalgic , yet clean and friendly . I like the past the narrows , you might want to consider staying at Temple Bar , less crowds and wide open calm lake .

Check out staying in Lake Las Vegas at the Westin Hotel (formerly Lowe's). Its a 4 star hotel, very classy with a nice pool. You can gets rooms around $100 a night in the summer, thru Orbitz and other sites. I've gotten rooms there as low as $60 a night thru priceline (hint - it's the only 4 star hotel with a guest rating over 8.2.....thats how you know it's the westin when doing the "name you own price" deal since they wont tell you the name till you book).

Its about a 25 minute drive to Callville bay, you can launch and get a slip there to leave your boat in for the weekend. I still like havasu better, but it is cool if your looking to boat mead and want a change of scenery.

I love meadview. Stay at the meadview motel, it's a 10 minute drive to the ramp. There is no one up on that end of the lake. Ski on glass all day and the only wake you run over is your own.

I went there one time and loved it. It's just the drive getting there. :eek

If you are coming to boat, stay in Boulder City, the El Rancho, or the brand newly remodeled Best Western that is opening right across street should be opening any day now. Boulder City is awesome as you can walk from your hotel right to about 5-6 good restaurants and bars, and there is a grocery store about 1/8 mile from the motels right on your way to the water to stock up on anything you need. Old town Boulder is really cool, lots of old buildings and shops etc from the days when the dam was built.

If you want casino action then stay in vegas, either the Fiesta or GVR.

Just a five minute drive down the hill to the Hacienda/Hoover Dam Lodge. I assume they still run a casino there. May be wrong.

Casino Yes, but there are no table games, just video/electronic gaming.

Never stayed there, but I have heard the rooms are nice.

Suggest the New Best Western in Boulder City, just finishing a full remodel. if you want a small place and parking right out front with your boat the El Rancho is cool but be ready it is old school, I would stay away from the casinos in Henderson unless you empty your boat of valuables every night. JMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I am in havasu about twice a month all year long, looking to do something different. I will be taking my Predator C30 to Mead and will be burning fuel.
See you guys on the water

One thing that that I will mention that no one has, is the availability of FUEL on the water.

West of the narrows: Lake Mead Marina/Las Vegas Boat and Callville Bay.

East of the narrows: Temple Bar.

I cannot speak for what (octane) is offered at LMM/LVBH or CB, but Temple Bar only has 87.
