Post photos!

My buddy's family had one when he was a kid. He always said he'd love to find it.

Sorry thats what I meant, does your boat Hull look similar to this one.

Who's boat is that? My buddy said his old family boat was aqua blue-green with white ivory interior..

I wonder if this was it!

This boat was our old family cruiser we had for about 4 years.

I think the amount to move it forward is based on the adapter thickness? When I used to do odd conversions at Art Carr back in the day the best people for adapters were Advanced Adapters... http://www.advanceadapters.com/

I bought a used set of 32's to replace some original 9's in a casale split case 10*. Do I need to machine a spacer for the inner spacer on the upper shaft. The original setup runs on a shoulder on the splines. Can anyone describe or show me a pic of how this is done? In the shop right now. Thanks

After a little more research.... I'm going from standard gears to heavy duty gears.

A little lost on the request however I've never seen the need to add any type of spacers on the back side of the gears...all spacers are in front. The gears seat on the shaft splined shoulders

The second pic is of the shaft with the 32 spline adapter slid on. If I put the gear on it falls down over the shoulders on the shaft due to the bigger diameter. I'm pretty sure I just need to machine a spacer for this.

I answered over on the other forum, but the heavy duty gears require a whole new spacer setup. You will need a spacer behind the top gear and it's thickness can vary from 1/4" down to a 1/16". They are a pain to set up initially. I have done several lately. The heavy duty gears are 1/4" thicker than standard gears. Casale changed the way the gears are cut sometime in the early 90's I think, early gears had the angle on the bottom gear and after the change the angle was cut on the larger upper gear. Just spent several hours removing 80% of the water jackets and 1/2" midplate to get heavy duty 45's into a case. If I can help give me a call. I have a set of standard 32's also.

Thanks steve. Thats what I figured. I made this bushing last night using .975 as a start point. Then took about .010 off to set the back lash. Also had to make a new rear spacer for the lower gear. Every thing looks to be good now. I'll run it today.

Its been a while since I installed my HD gears, but don't you have to cut the od of the 10 splines back some for the adapter? Casale talked me through it and mine is very quiet.

I met this guy Doug at CFW and he had built this 81 Sanger Hydro as a tribute to his father who owned (and I believe built) the old "Lickety Split" top fuel hydro. Doug tried for several years to buy the actual Lickety Split hydro, calling the owner every 4-5 months. The owner always said he had no interest in selling it. One day Doug calls and the owner had sold it to someone else. The guy had all of Doug's contact information and knew his connection to the boat, yet sold it to someone else.

Anyways, here is a slide show I did for him.

I didn't cut the spline but I did put a step on the inside of the bushing so it fit nicely. We'll see how it goes today

You are correct! I take them off completely and use a spacer with partial splines like on the bottom shaft. You are basically starting from scratch.

Whats it take to mount a t-400 to a 460?

2 different ways one is cut the bellhousing off and a buy a aftermarket pumpcover/bellhousing to adapt to a for or advance adapters makes a kit I did the first when i had a ford in my cambell cruiser

I was looking with interest at the prices in the article of the boats back then. The Hondo was $15,000, an excellent price, considering the average price of a new car in 1989 was $15,350. Plus it did 95 mph, according to the article. I wish I could buy a brand spankin' new V-drive for the price of a new car now ($29,800).

Nice tribute and story.

I can't believe the guy sold the hydro to someone else.

What is a 72C Velvet drive worth? It came out of the boat, but isn't going back in...

Thanks!

The last one I bought (used) was $800, a bit high but it worked excellent until I put 850 hp to it. You should get min. $500 if it's complete with the drive plate & coupler. Jocko
