I guess it's just the angle of that picture but that really looked like a Nu-era the first time I looked at it. Didn't think it was a 20.8 based on the side profile of the deck and the apparent height of it.

There’s also another small boat Lavey 20.2 Sebring in the shop getting a full restoration. I just finished up the transom reinforcement on Friday. This one will also be getting the Mercury Racing 300R!

the 20.8 is nu-era styling as opposed to the 20.2 and 18

these lake boats have really become a lost art. Its tough owning one where there is alot of wakeboarding, for sure, but I bet if you started molding them again they'd catch fire. mine even fits in my tract house garage along with another car and a couple motorcycles. SUVs and Porsches both go fast, but the sensations are WAAAAAY different.

How many 20.2's were made with splash Wells? I think I've only seen my uncle's.

Oh I'm aware. That angle just made the hull overall seem very tall like the Nu-era Vees are.

Obviously only the very early ones then. My uncle has Chris's boat he raced in the '85 Parker 9 hour. Likely laid up very early in '85 or late '84.

Quite possibly. It looks like the blueish color is really muted in the picture. His is dark blue and about 4 other shades. I can't remember, did your uncle race that year too? You can still see the faint outline on the windshield of the Camire name but the first name is faded away. I'm 90% certain Chris drove my Uncle's but it could have been Jeff as well as I know there were a few Seabrings entered in that years race.

Not sure. In the picture, the name on the helmet says Chris.

Looked at it again and I don't think that's the one. Besides the color being off the gel is different at the rear above the rub rail. I've posted pictures of it here before and swore I had some on this phone, but I guess not.

Thanks Mike. For some reason I was remembering his gal slightly differently. Looks like it very well could be it.

I concur... looks like the same boat. I didn’t realize it was a former race boat.

Oh yeah. So was the Vossmeyer's (yellow and black hull). In the same race even. You can still see the patch from where the center steer helm was mounted in the dash.

I just showed my dad the picture of the boat at Naci.
He was blown away! Says that is the same boat and that is the very first 20.2 Sebring!

Yeah, it's lived the last 20 years at Naci and has been used A LOT. Taught all my cousins and brothers (along with countless others) how to ski. Used to pull us all down the slalom course at Naci as well. That heavy sucker will still run 80 when unloaded and with just the big ear Ron Hill chopper that is used to pull skiers with too.

That boat is what I use as evidence or whenever someone asks me about Lavey quality. It's made a HUGE impression on many people over the years

18 or 20.2??
Either way…that’s a lotta weight hanging off the back.
It was mine...the 18'10". The Blue 20' was there and it was rigged with its 300R, but Chris didn't send me a video of that one (cuz its not mine). I will have to ask him about introducing me to the owner of the blue boat.
As far as weight, the 300R is only 100 lbs heavier than the original 150XR2, so floating will not be a problem (I used to put my foot on the lower unit to get my 250lb self a boost up into the boat from being in the water.) We will have to be sure the motor height is dialed in ... we didn't rig a jack plate.
As a precaution, though, both these Sebrings got a transom gusset/buttress reinforcement system a la Chris Jr.

What's going on with Chris and Lavey Jr nowadays? Where are they working at and what have they been up too? Seriously talented guys.

I know a little about the sitch with Chris, but I think Chris Jr will give the best answer.
I gotta get some new tires for the trailer.
Chris is still rigging the foot throttle and a few other small things like the back seat, but with luck we will float it this weekend.

here's a walkaround. I was chatting with his son while I took the video

Thank you for the compliment @RiverDave ! I am and have been rigging for Eliminator since November 2020. I actually did all the rigging myself on that Harnden 31xo you just posted a video of on YouTube and I’ve done the rigging on 6 of the boats that’s left the factory this year, I’m very thankful for the opportunity Jake has given me and it’s a real great company to work for with a great team with lots of builds on the board!

As for my dad, I’ll let him speak up when he wants but he’s still fully in the boat industry 👍

Next is choosing a wheel. have to get some time with Chris to test some High5's and maybe a cleaver or chopper or two. Probly gonna be close to or higher than a 30.
I am going to start a new thread in the Boat restorations and Upgrades forum. will put a link to that here once I get it together.

looks to be a slightly older cousin to yours...even has the same late 80's, Duran Duran/Nagel three-swipe swoosh on the bow.
Chris still working on the other stuff in his 'spare time'.
Your ride is VERY well cared for.
best regards, see you on the water.

That would be the 20.2 MUCH lower freeboard and generally small interior boat. Suppose to run a little better that the 20.8 with the outboard though.

“Under the Lavey name” is one way to say it. That’s mainly due to the fact of who we are and our heritage. But long story short, no it’s not under the Lavey name. Just my dad and I taking care of Lavey customers (and other manufactured boats) who still want the Lavey quality restoration/service but as a side gig. And yes I am rigging full time for Eliminator since November 2020.
