First time in 11 years patrolling the airfield to see this: empty runways. Pics are of north and south runways. About 25% of normal (my guess only) passenger jets but 75% more cargo planes (good thing). Delivery trucks stacked up around all cargo terminals waiting to load or unload.
Usually see one Kalitta Air cargo jet at any given time, there were 4 yesterday, most likely same planes that hauled the patients from Japan. Kalitta has brought home many fallen Service Members, good company from my experiences with them.
Just another sign of the times. Nice change from working the city last 3 weeks.

If someone has the means, nows the time to get video footage of this. Airports, downtown areas, Las Vegas, etc. It will be good footage for some apocalyptic movie.

Eerie for sure. Hopefully, we never see this kind of situation again
Agreed
I liked the traffic ease for one drive in.
It weighs heavy on how much has slowed down.
I won’t say I miss the grind but I want it all back.
It will never be the same, I predict there will be events like this in the future but we as a whole will be better prepared to not have this big of an impact if and when that happens.

I’m at T1 and there are more homeless in the baggage claim than passengers. The terminal is empty.

Homeless in the terminal?
They come in and sit/sleep in the seats or on the floor. The police are usually pretty good about moving them out. It was just more of a statement about how there are very few passengers in the terminal. Like LowRiver said, complete 180 in traffic.

Yes Homeless have been in the terminals heavily the last 2 years
There were a couple fights between passengers and homeless yesterday over the airport PD radio.

I have 10 projects at LAX right now. Some at the new Midfield terminal. Most are on hold for now. I did just get a email to start back up with the engineering on 5 of them. Just can't visit the sites for now.

I was working on the tarmac last night and I was amazed how dead it was. Normally it’s still cranking at night but I could literally count on one hand how many planes moved all night. Scary.

Yeah saw my ex’s company is still working yesterday. Looks like construction is at 50% compared to last week.

I have my family in LA grabbing newspapers for my grandkids, as I said when this started we are living an event of historic proportions and we owe it to the next generations to remember the lessons we are learning as a nation.
LowRiver it is hard to fathom LA and LAX like that. Print and Save them pics for your kids scrapbooks.
