2 of these 1 for each side plus a kit that had 6 1 foot for under the steps.

Some advice originally I wired in to the stock step light for power source seemed easy enough plus would come on with steps out / porch lite etc. However too much load on the control unit and went dim when 2nd side was installed. (RV step electronics are junk and have been for decades).
So any switched 12 volt source is good, damn low draw, In my case I had a dash switch for a spot light that was never installed so just tapped in to the circuit using the dash switch.

I did the same thing with mine, light strip had tape on the back and I stuck it to the frame rail and then put a glob of silicone every few feet just to be safe. My kit came with a wireless remote and I tapped it into a 12 volt line, I can change colors or go full on extacy rave color changing if I want. Took me all of an hour to install.

Check my link. Waterproof led.
X2 I have the same strip mounted on my large slide up by my awning exposed to the elements and haven’t had any issues and it’s been installed for almost 5 years.

I have some that were from the factory underneath. Can turn them on remotely via the Iphone. Yours look brighter than mine for sure. Maybe I will order some and just replace what I currently have? Nice job on the lights

I use Areful RGB led strip to string it across my awning. I like this camper awning lights’ PVC casing design even though the connectors have a separate cover structure. So, the rope lights can withstand splashing water, which makes them perfect for indoors and outdoors use.

Did mine as well, same stuff from Amazon, it sticks on but then I went back and put a dab of silicone every few feet just in case to hold it on. Ran the plug up into one of the storage bays that had a household plug, the remote is infrared, so it works from pretty much anywhere, 57 million color combos, full disco, you name it, $42 and a few hours on my garage creeper.

can they be wired to a switch or can they only be turned on via remote?
