Let’s play a little game - Imco SCX drive

650 tq @ 4200 rpm, 700 HP @ 6000rpm to a Teague platinum XR.....is similar to what HP & TQ to an Imco SCX?

I want more power just cuz...but I don’t want to max out the drive more than I am now. I have already rebuilt the TCM XR And I’m easy going.

Dad had a scx on his 29 nordic. Motor made 1088 hp and 1140 ft lbs. ran great. Blew two drives a xr and a sc

1100 HP, Imco SCX w/sc -2 lowers. I have not had a failure as of yet I do put new gears in the lowers once maybe twice a year (depends how hard I run it), the gears are pitted and need to be replaced. The SCX uppers have gotten new gears and updated clutches, became really hard to shift. The SCX parts were worn out but not broken. Boat is 8 years old.
My old boat w/950 HP and XR drive would fail seemed like every year.

We had an SCX upper with an SC lower in a Nordic 29 deck with a GT Performance 1200. We did have a few problems with the lower the first couple years but once we went with Max Machine Works for the last repairs on the lower and switched to their fluid we had no problems in 2 years. We also stopped using a 5 blade 30p Maximus prop and stuck with the 4 blade 34 pitch.

I'm sure Max Marine is fantastic, but changing out the 5 blade to the 4 made the difference don't you think.

Most likely it did make the most difference but we had issues with the drive even with 4 blades. I think it was both factors, honestly.

My dad had the same setup. Went to a full scx and problem went away. Same as you had problems with the lowers as well

Do you know how much speed he lost after switching to full SCX?

We lost 7 mph on top end in the Nordic with the scx from the sc.

Cruising no difference at all in speed vs rpm.

Fwiw the boat with an sc did 112. With the scx it did 105 this was in June too.

Motor turned 6400 rpm
