Bentprops said it was for alcohol. He had a high compression motor and injected the alcohol when he got on it.

Great looking boats guys!

Lumpy - what are the specs on your motor? What does your 270 do speed wise?

Funny you ask....I wish I knew. I dont have a build sheet and cant get one.
All I know is its a 509ci with B&M 420 and two 750s.
The boat is a 95 that came with a 502 until the motor was done in 97.
Terry Laughlin built the engine.....I spoke with him briefly about a month ago.
He didnt have a build sheet just some paper receipts in his file cabinet. He said he remembered building
the engine.....a nice mild blower motor with dish pistons manley valves crane cam but no hard specs.
He built it 16 years ago. Terry is a very nice man......old school. Not a lot of documentation on the motor. The boat
itself has only 246 hours total so I know for sure the engine has less than that.
As for speed, I should have some numbers for you hopefully by sunday. I just picked up a 28P yesterday
so I plan on running it this weekend.

HP wise, if mild, your probably looking at around 600-650 would be my guess. With those numbers you should be able to push that 28p to around 5400-5600 rpm which, I'm guessing, puts your around 80-82'ish. Report back next week and let's see how close I am. :D

Lumpy is that Bud Bailey's old boat?

I was thinking the same thing. Somewhere in my archives I have the CL ad when it was for sale.

Lumpy have you contacted Jerry for an original build sheet on the boat?

You were going to do some motor work on the 240 you said in an earlier post?

Well I had a chance to run the 28p yesterday. Managed to get to 71mph at about 5100rpm and still climbing.....but ran out of lake. Lopez is not a very big lake and with all the traffic yesterday I was not going to push it any further. Other than my speed run it was about a 100 degrees out and enjoyed cruising the lake and stoping many times to swim. I hope everyone had a safe and fun weekend.

Chopperman nice! 240 closed deck is one of the best boats around. What year is that? Power?

Thanks Runs2rch!! It's a 91 with a stock 454, 60-65 mph with a 22 pitch prop, it was a frickin awesome boat!! I should've never sold it! But I do love the 210 that I've got now, it's a little rocket. I bought it from one of our fellow RDPers! If the current owner sells I'm first in line to get her back!! Lol!!

lol...i didn't even see your post till after i did mine, that's a very nice looking 210:thumbsup. had i bought a closed bow 210 instead of the open bow id probably still have it but the end result was the closed bow 240 after the dust settled..
