Ever seen “Jeeps” like these? Called “Jeepneys” in the Philippines, they are the major transportation for the lower income population around Manila and suburbs.
The “Jeepney” originated from all the Jeeps that the U.S. left in the Philippines after the war, and those industrious people added benches and used them for taxis. The modern Jeepneys are not Jeeps, but heavy diesel truck chassis with big bench seats in the back. They run a semi fixed route and people jump on and off the back while moving slowly, pass up the money to the driver, and jump off near where they are going. Most are very colorfully decorated.
Sometime my girlfriend and I and friends are going to rent one for the night and do a bar/strip club crawl.
