Good boats, Randy has been building them for years. Quite a value compared to the cost of a comparable eliminator, about half the price. New with a 300 they are only $55,000, a daytona 21 would be $110,000.

And is the motor an x or an xs?

Has X on it now but he also has a XS.Which do you think would be better?

Depends on the price difference.......XS is a much newer motor and waaaaaay better on fuel then the X, but the X is regarded as one of the holy grail motors for making the most power at the propshaft of all of the 300's Merc ever built.

Also key to know is what lower unit the motors come with, sportmaster or torquemaster?

Thanks Walt.Going to speak with him in about an hour, he's in Texas and raced boats for years. He knows a lot about O/B's will let you know what I find out.Looked at new one's but this boat is almost new and the price is great.Talked to Eliminator and the price is just to much and no DCB Mach 22 available so I found Liberator and for the price and performance I don't think i can find a better boat. All The Liberators and cougar's are on the east coast.

Cool. Definitely make sure you end up with a sportmaster lower on either the x or xs, i think they are the same lower unit so it could be swapped to either motor. The torquemaster could blow out north of 75 ish, and that would be bad. The XS is a nice, no smoke late model motor and they sip fuel. The x's are gas pigs but have the most potential for being built. Either way it will be a low 100 mph boat, if it were me and the price was right with the XS I would do that, very turn key high tech motors compared to the old school x models.

KMG in San Diego now owns the DCB 22 mold. They make a VERY nice boat (Kevin used to work for DCB). If any of that helps at all.

There was one running around Havasu with a 300 on the back I was next to him at 90MPH and it was ridding pretty nice. He had his lady with him and she was loving the speed.

Here is the deal,I was wrong. It currently has the X on it with the sport master and the other motor is a 1998 300 Pro max with the torque master.I agree that the XS would be a better new technology two stroke.

Like I mentioned to Walt the Eliminator 21 is 100K and god now's what KMG would want for the 22.The new Liberator 21 is 59K and it's a 100MPH boat.I just don't want to get that deep in debt.I'm retired and got to stop flipping boats like I do,that's why I wanted to find a slightly used one that I could pay cash for.

Liberators are great boats.

If the price is the same with either motor, definitely go with the x/sporty. The x has a higher rev limit, makes a little more power and is more modern than the pro max. If the price is a lot cheaper with the PM and you can get it with the sporty, it’s a great reliable motor. I’ve heard of quite a few with 1000+ hours.

Either motor will drink fuel. I think the X consumes ~70gph at wot?

Also, Randy (wild man) posts on scream and fly a lot. If you have any questions about the boat I’d hit him up.

DC is right on. A Lib21 is a bit smaller than a Dcb22, Cougar 22MTR, or Daytona 22. It's similar to a 21mtr or 21 Daytona.

I spent much time deciding between the 22's and settled on the Cougar. It's just as fast or faster than the DCB or Eliminator. But has a roomier cockpit and more freeboard. I think the tunnels are deeper than the DCB.

I have a 2003 Cougar 22MTR and a 2015 300xs and it gets very impressive mileage. Like 5-7 mpg, even at higher rpms. And with a box stock 26 bravo 1xs has run 92.8 mpg.

 Not hardly, fake news.

Lol, I meant to insert a sarcastic smiley in there but it didn’t come thru!

I think in reality the X is more like 30-33 right? I think my 300 PM’s are in the 30 neighborhood.

Yea. It has a Bobs hydrolic Jack plate. It makes a huge difference when making top end runs. But for cruising, skiing, etc, the boat runs much better at lower engine heights.

I think because cougars were mfg in BC Canada, they werent that popular in the US.

I've owned a number of boats over the years and the Cougars layup, hull, tooling, rigging, etc impress me. For their era, they were rigged better than most.

Spoke to soon,The Fla. boat deal fell thru so I'm buying the 2014 21 Lib. in Tex. with the 300X and the sport master lower, has a 30 clever prop on it and a 28 pro max prop with the boat also, the price for the boat is more then fair. The owner is a well known long time O/B guy in Austin that post's on scream and fly.We are going to meet in Tucson Sat. he's driving a hell of a long way, my part of the drive is about 350 miles from Bullhead. Think from Austin it's like 800+.Should be a fun little hot rod.

Very cool, make sure the lower unit has a expansion tank installed. They are known to heat up push out the seals, several vendors make a fitting that you attach a hose to and run it up to a puke tank attached under the cowl.

Thanks Walt,I will ask if it has one otherwise I'll get it.The owner run's one of the largest o/b dealers in Austin and he keeps this and his other three boat's and motors in top condition.
