We rode the Cyclone on it's last day.
It was terrific.
When you entered the "tunnel" to the entrance line, there were millions of lights, the smell of the salt air and creosote.

It was fantastic.

Money was allotted to build a similar one some years ago, permits pulled,, all set and damfino what ever became of that project.

We use to go down there and have a hot dog or some other shitty food the night before fishing trips when my dad ran a charter boat many moons ago.

Couldn't be a priest. His hands aren't on the kids ass.

My office is right up the street in the Wells Fargo building, and the pike is THE place to go eat. Sad thing is, they tried to fix it all up, but there isn't much else to do but eat.

I heard they tried to turn the Queen Mary into a casino, but Long Beach shut that idea down. I think that would have brought the city more dollars, and business to the Pike, but oh well.

They used to have a "floating casino" off the shores of Southern California :thumbsup seemed to work pretty good, back then :D

Wish I could...he died about 8 years ago.

Well then, I'll tell ya about it :D Back when I was a wee lad me & a bunch of my pals would ride our bicycles down to the Pike from Paramount, about 12 maybe 15 miles each way. They had a "park bench" area at the end of what was Rainbow Pier. There was a bunch of old guy's ( bout my age now  ) that went down there everyday & played checkers, dominoes and p-knucle (sp) and fished. They'd be sitting around drinking outta paper bags :hmm and they seemed to "spit" a lot :hmm:D

Anyways,................wouldn't take long for one of 'em to break into some wild tale about how he "invented" the 1st steam train, the 1st street car, the 1st airplane, or how they used to run bootleg whiskey into "the city " etc., etc,......and then it was "ON", the next guy would tell a "bigger" story than the last guy an so on & so on :D I remember one guy tellin me about him & his brother riding horses from their home in Gardena to the beach an such, an I also remember him telling us to enjoy our day's as "youngsters" cause SOMEDAY we'd all be old like him & his pals:eek: I told HIM, "no way :D we were gonna stay young forever  :D....................................................................................

I'm STILL tryin to figure where we went wrong :D
