Not sure I need one but would it be better to have one regardless of the motor elevation?
My old 77 Blackmax 175 lost #6 and WOT told me compression on my 1993 200 XRi #6 had a bit lower c

ompression but was still ok. I have a 6 inch setback bracket.

My thinking is it's really not going to hurt anything (when done right) and far less likely to run into a water pressure issues when maybe over trimmed a bit.

I have one one my boat. Probably no real need for it since it doesn't go over 70, let alone 80 (then general rule of thumb for the older lowers and needed LWP). But since I don't have a jack plate on there (yet) I don't have to water the water pressure when trimming the engine or anything really.

It needs a water pressure gauge. Stock lowers are good to 80 with moderate trim. That skeg guard is doing you no favors at wot either.

Motor was purchased with scag gaurd on it. I'm afraid to remove and see something I don't wanna see . I put a water pressure gauge on it with the motor. Can't get WOT yet. Gotta figure out a chine issue. I'm all ears with that issue. Transom and reupholstery happening right now so I won't have it in the water till March.

even with low water pickups, keeping them consistent it difficult at best.

log data, from a merc OB

you can clearly see the temp spike as pressure falls.

Motor is going to need solid mounts and the steering checked for air to deal with the chine walk issue. Prop selection and driving ability has a lot to do with it too.

HST4ME, owned this boat since 1991. Previously had a 175 BlackMax. Put the 200 XRi on it last year when the 175 failed. I've purchased Bobs solid mounts but have not installed yet. Motor is off the hull right now. Had the transom replaced and it's at the upholstery shop getting a full structured upholstery face lift. Hydraulics will need to be addressed when the motor gets put back on. I'm running a 24 chopper. I had a 24 Tempest Plus but felt like it was lifting the transom and contributing to the chine. I had some "Step Trim" plates that were manually adjustable magnesium but did not put them back on the new transom. Next question,,,,do trim plates have a positive or negative effect? My thinking was they were keeping the transom up and since it's a ModV with no pad it was not helping. Probably repeating myself and the photo shows what I'm describing. Photo is the Tempest

How much trim does it take to run it. The mounts will make a big difference. I'm sure someone out there has a power bleeder for the steering. The roundy bottom doesn't help much.
