This is my buddy roys all original '65 Mandella. His grandpa bought it new in 65 and left it to my buddy when he passed a couple years ago. This boat is absolutly gorgeous I don't think it has ever slept outside a garage.

Correct. Taken at my Mom and Dad's last Sunday on the way to Carson's. Family first. But I got dibs in a couple of years when things turn around.

I took a bunch of pics. Wish I'd taken more. I try and get a couple of the better ones.

the story i was told that after Lou died, Carson crushed the Marathon mold and took it to the dump.

Not sure if that was up at Magic Mountain or not. Bummer.:thumbsdown

I built 6 wood Mandellas for Rudy Ramos from 1957 throu 1960. In one of them Rudy set the drag race record at 97.71, before hydroplanes, in 1958. Joe Mandella built about one boat a year for Rudy, starting in 1950. I recieved pictures from Rudy before he got his last checkered flag. The boat was the first flat bottom, plywood, v-drive boat built by Joe Mandella, in 1950. Rudy powered it with the engine from his track roadster. It was a Flat Head Ford. I have drawn plans to build this boat.

Harlan, you seem to be an expert on Mandella's, my friend refers to this as a mid deck, is there such a thing?

I am unable to open your posted pictures.
Several brands of boats were built with center decks between the foreward cockpit and a rear seat, foreward of the engine. The glass Mandellas had a bolt in glass center deck. The wood decks I built were built with or without center decks. There were some special race decks with a single cockpit for the driver, similar to a circle race hydroplane.

Where is this from? Shows co-driver Barry Chase apparently swapping positions with Lou during a race?
