I have a carbureted 454 Mercruiser with a open cooling system in a 1990 Howard. The hose between the thermostat housing and water pump felt soft. Upon inspection it had a coiled spring in it loosely. I understand it being a suction hose it needs reinforcement to prevent from collapsing. I order a new hose but no type of reinforcing in the hose rubber itself or separate spring on the inside. Is it okay to run without the reinforcement spring coil or should I swap the spring from the old hose? The new hose is an oem mercruiser part.
