we lost another great a couple weeks ago. Mike Kuhl, engine builder and long time river rat left us on June 23rd. Mike was the force behind the "river rat" timing covers and water pumps that the v-drive guys all recognize.

Used to have a shop across the street from him in Santa Ana years ago. Some bitchen boats and cars came thru there. One Placecraft always stands out in my mind. Think it was Rich Bitch or something to that affect

Kuhl was the first guy I dealt with in having a huffer rebuilt. Aside from just "going through" it, he showed me what they did to make old 6/71's from a GMC usable for gas use. Drilling, pinning and such. He taught me how to shim the gears, and set the rotor gaps, and a few odd things you'd only get from a guy who'd done it a million times.
I'm glad I met him, but sorry he's gone. We lost knowledge, and a guy who was willing to share it.

Race In Paradise
Those staging lanes have some good guys to bench race with :(

Damn.... Mike did the machine work on my first jet boat motor and then a 392 Hemi I had, he even called me "392 Rick" when I'd see him. Visited that old shop he had in Santa Ana many times. He had a good run and MANY accomplishments.

I know I posted these years ago, but with Mike’s passing I pulled these out
they used to hang in my garage.
Only talked to Mike once when I had thoughts on a blown motor for my Hondo, but with a Wife and Two little kids and another on the way that wasn’t in the cards.
