Be nice if he showed all the molds. I wouldn't mind the nighthawk mold to put together a hard deck outboard or even an open bow. Love that boat

These are just down the road from my office. I always wondered why they just sat in the field and nothing was done with them.

They are Stan's from Crusader Boats and his business partner. I have been chatting with him all morning.

So stan's getting out now before another crash? Ask him if Alex Torrez would like to the aftershock molds.

Isn't that the mold that Brent Leach started as Next Boats?

The molds in the pic are all the aftershock and Carrera molds. They are in Hemet by the airport.

Thanks for the tip namba, and thanks hpg3 for that pic.
His ad says Tahiti molds too and I've been looking for a set of molds for a certain hull from my youth (like 11 years old) that no one else on the planet would like to have and I'll be damned if this mold in the upper left looks like it might, maybe, fingers crossed, be it? The only clue I'm basing that on is the deck had a little faux hood scoop, like on an early ranchero, and that deck mold looks like it has something like that on it? I know it's a long shot to find a 50 year old set of molds but looks like I'm going to Hemet.

When you go can you see if there is a round bow 21- 20 daycruiser mold?

Of course. You mean like a spectra? I think the guy here locally still has his original spectra 20 mold for sale, Hot Rods and Hobbies in Signal Hill. When you spoke to Stan did you ask about a round nose 20?

Would these molds need a ton of work to get them up to par? I have owned two open bow 21 crusader jets and loved every bit of them. Would love to build a new one if its even feasible.

I’m waiting for the list of boats now. What I really would like to buy is the old Dimarco/Centurion/Canyon Daycruiser mold

When I was at Rogers in the 80s we picked up a set of molds (Spectra bottom, Schiada style deck, kinda) that had been sitting outside like these have and we spent weeks block sanding and block sanding and block sanding them back into shape. We were lucky that the casters were still on both molds so at least they were sitting square while they were in the sun and someone had thoughtfully drilled a drain hole in the bottom so the hull mold didn't hold water. If water had sat in it that'd be a whole other can of worms because as I'm sure you know, just like a sailboat that sits at a mooring for years, the thing would be full of blisters.

I was wondering the other day if anybody had ever done an outboard Nighthawk. With a 400r that should seriously scoot.

Cole built one open bow. I believe there was a hotboat article on it in 96. Had a 200 merc on it. Ran 65. Cole tried everything he could to help me buy it but didn't have enough credit. Sold to New York with a 2.5 260hp on it. That was the last I ever saw or heard of it again

So what Spectra mold do they have? Spectra old had something like 5 different models right? 18, 19, 20, 24 (2 different decks), and the 32. I still think the 19 Spectra is one of the sexiest boats ever designed.

I wasn't working there at the time but was around when Brett had your boat sketch on paper. Turned out nice.

What year wass that? I went to work rigging for Gene and Brett at Howard in 90 or so. Couldn’t have been too long after he left Cole. Brett was a cool guy, took he and his girlfriend to the river a couple times.

My 2nd Cole, the one pictured, was sketched and laid up in 98'. Early on in the build, I worked a lot with Brett, great guy. Then in early 99' for delivery and some misc details. If I recall it was right around that time he left to work for a company supplying the resins and I was working with Jim for the finishing touches.
I don't recall ever seeing an outboard on anything at the shop --- but then, that was a long time ago.
I'm most curious to know if my 'Nighthawk' is the only one Jim labeled as a 220, to commensurate the roll-out of the 250S and 280S that year ?
I've never seen or read of another 220, but mine clearly shows 220 in the gel, not Nighthawk.

He change numbers when he did the 250 and the 280 and made the 22 a 220. One outboard done in 1996 I believe

I think Racey and his dad own the 32 mold? The 19 has been bounced around so much I have no idea. The 18 I haven't head about at all since the end of Spectra, and I recall hearing something the 24 but I can't remember what or who.

Agree on that and I'm guessing would be the one O.R. is hoping to be the barn find mold he's looking for. I hope for him I am wrong.
I thought I read in years past that Greg Shoemaker new where that and a couple other popular older style hull molds were close to him in Corona. I believe the advantge/rogers cyclone/super cyclone mold/s were listed there too.

Have no desire to find or own a spectra mold (that would make much more sense that wanting the mold I want!) the 18 would be cool though, I’m looking for an old 1960s Tahiti mold.
All of Rogers old molds are stashed somewhere in the IE I think. And last I heard are outside and uncovered, Roger’s rolling in his grave as they never saw the sunlight except when we washed them out at RCB.

Advantage has the Rogers Boneville mold and build a few a year still. The 19 Spectra mold is one of the 45 molds sitting in the yard. Stan from Crusader verified that to me yesterday

Advantage has one of the Rogers 18 molds, that's a great hull. Depending who you believed, Roger swore he kept the better turning 18 bottom. lol

Harry only bought a few from Roger, the 20 and the Dragstar being the other 2.

Spectra must have had 2 sets of the 19, Jerry Gilbreth/Eliminator had a set forever right after Spectra went tits up.

would the mold your looking for be the one with the bottom that has the deeper V with the strakes running the full length forward up to keel with deep entry?

Ahh man! Someone needs to grab that mold and start pooping them out. I wonder if they have the tunnel inserts that GMT made for it. Would be a killer set-up with a new 300R on it

when Northstar boats was building the 19 spectra in Anaheim were they using the Spectra Mold, Elim. mold or their own splash? Here's a Northstar I looked at years ago in Hemet @ well known/respected laminators shop (sorry blanking on the guys name at the moment..Gilbert?? Beretta or maybe Barracuda boats builder?)
Edit...it was Joel @ Genessis Boats shop in Hemet. I just saw his name in my phone book while looking for another name.

I can't help the shop I grew up in. Some guys dads worked for Schiada (my uncle was Leonard's first employee) Hallett...a dozen other shops back in the day. I grew up in that one starting when I was 10 and it was like going to disneyland, watching my dad and the other riggers doing what they did, metal flake hulls everywhere, the smell of resin. Damn that was a great era.

Lol! I was referring to the new Tahiti Offshore should pick up the 19 Spectra mold. Some of those old Tahitis were pretty cool.

yep.

old school deep entry, lots of freeboard. looks like a big guppy.

View attachment 737818
that is one good looking ol' school float for sure. Ya that looks like the hull bottom I was thinking. I can certainly see why you want the mold to play with. A modern day build with the newest, lightest, strongest materials would be a fun piece to play with. would you go with a jet. O.D., or V-drive appl? A 5-600 hp all alum. LS motor under the glass eng. cover would be a kick too.

No thank you. We got two molds out of Rays Yard last year. Im done buying.

It is exhausting looking at old molds and trying to figure out whats what and if it can be saved.

257 Carrera is there, wpm 23-28s are there, 257 party effect x is cool too. Happy hunting boys.
Carrera 257 / 32/ 280 raptor v / 202xr / 19 eclipse
Aftershock 282 Deck, 28 24 tremor / 270 cat/ 24 deck / 21 skier / 21 tahiti style skier / wpm 23 28 cat
Cole 220 / 280S - 250 is at interceptor
The small stuff looked random- southwind stuff was hard to tell, stan had some wild old crusader stuff.

Hope that helps.

Agree completely, there's quite a few around that have big power and real nicely done.
I wanted that Northstar for my step son real bad but wasn't willing to over pay for it. The stringers were so rotted some clown wrapped them with angle iron and carpeted over it. Total rust bucket of rotted core shit. The bottom was covered in stress cracks from twisting etc. The hull was sagging horribly on the dolly it was sitting on. The seller, some dude out of canyon lake area, was pushing it as ready to run with big power, just drop in a motor, add your pump and go, Total scammy bullshit.

Scott Foxwell..AKA..@STEELCOMP has a build going with a Spectra but in a V-drive. I hav'nt seen a post about in a quite a while though. He was moving the dash back to lengthen the deck, did a real nice job with notch cutting it and re-locating it back was the last I've seen of it. He builds badass engines if your not familiar with him, a head porting specialist. I'm not sure if he's on this site but was very active on P.B. and still is to a degree. I would really like to see an update on it if he's made progress. I have no doubt when he's done with it it will be one badass, crazy fast piece. Maybe somebody on this site knows him and has seen a more recent post with progress?
