@Tahoe540 and I tore into the short block I bought for my 25 Daytona to go over everything yesterday. What I got in the short block purchase was a Bowtie Block, a Bryant Racing Crank and Oliver Max Rods (Diamond pistons will probably be replaced). I dropped the block off at the machine shop this morning to have it gone over and then everything else will follow.

Other parts of the build:
Big Brodix Heads
Mooneyham 1471 Blower
Superchiller
Dual Holley Dominators(built by Bob Oliver at Competition Carburetion)
T&D Rockers

In the end the build will be 580 CI and 1000 HP :D

No coming over to the dark side then?good luck

I have the wife talked into a 25' Speedster with 300's once I get my promotion into the management position at work. Now I want a 27 after seeing the ones up close at Discovery Bay and Windmill at Big Cat. Not sure if I'd do outboards or big block power in that. We will be in So Cal in November for our annual Disneyland trip and we are going to stop by Eliminator while we are down there.

Why only 1000HP with 580 cubic inches and a 1471? If you're only looking for 1000HP I think you could sell the 1471 and put a much more reasonable blower on there without having the related issues. Sounds like a really nice piece with excellent internals. I wouldn't mind finding a project like that for a good price.

We will more than likely end up with more than 1000hp, that is just the baseline number we are looking at for now and will see where we end up at the end. The previous set-up that is in the graveyard now was a 572 that made 930hp.

Thread is no good without some pics LOL. I think Brian has some great parts to build some big reliable HP. Found some casting sand still stuck in the block, means someone did not do a thorough cleaning. This should be a really cool build and fun to spend Brian's money!!!

Thanks for the pic's! I can't wait to get everything else over to the machine shop and then back so we can start the really fun part! Thanks again for the help.

So machine shop found some issues with the block that made the decision to junk it ok in my book. Ordering a new Brodix Block today based on the discussion with him yesterday. BOAT $$$$ :D

What is that sponge crap in the pic next to the oil filter adaptor? I found a piece of that in my T-stat housing on my engine and couldn't figure out what it was.

I think that is casting sand that was never cleaned out.

Been a long road but things are progressing quickly now. Got my cam, lifters, springs and retainers from Teague Saturday. Valves will be here Wednesday

Block and balanced rotating assembly will be done at the machine shop this week. Heads are in process of rebuild, waiting on my new T&D rockers for final machining on the Brodix heads if it’s needed.

I have a couple different sets of .120 wall pushrods. Depending on your lifters, let me know what size your looking for. I might have them.

Thanks for that, we are lucky to have Summit right here in town. Unfortunately they didn’t have the exhaust side in stock but Teague did. Ordered those and they will be here tomorrow.

Following your motor build thank you for posting it, what size valves came with your Brodix heads, who did you have polish them, looking good.

The Brodix heads were off of my old motor and have been freshly rebuilt by DB Cylinder Heads up here in Northern NV. They have Manley 1.880" Exhaust Valves and Manley 2.250" Severe Duty Intake Valves. Springs and Retainers are from Teague. they were previously polished but I cleaned them up a bit.

Looks great man! Best of luck on the startup break-in run.

I just re-read this entire thread and aside from a kick ass motor I think the coolest things you said was: "Thanks for that, we are lucky to have Summit right here in town."

I remember when there was a speed shop in pretty much every town, just down the street. Must be why Reno-Sparks is blowing up...

Let us know how she runs, and post a video, I wanna hear it!

No time for a dyno break in, tune, and a couple of pulls? I thought you'd let us buy squares for hp and tq estimates. Now your going to keep us guessing. I'd estimate 1200/1050 without knowing more about the heads and cam. Great looking build! Look forward to the finish.

I wanted to put it on the dyno but I would have to head over to Sac for that. I’ve been on OT/6 day work weeks for the last month and a half and it’s not stopping anytime soon. Based on conversations with Josh at Teague it will be close to 1200hp, everything is almost identical to their 1050 builds that put out close to that as well.

Renodaytona is that a water pump connected to the cam? If so it seems easier to plum and access verses under the motor.

Yes, magnaflow/glenwood 1" water pump. It is super easy to change the impeller, and the plumbing is super simple. 1 1/4" inlet hose and 2 -10AN outlets into the front of the block.

V-Drive deal right? I didn't see in the thread if this was a V-drive or I/O.

Yes usually used on v-drives but mine is an I/O. power steering and alternator take up the real estate for a standard belt driven water pump. Motor is going in Thursday afternoon, more pics to follow.

Sounds nice ,.. was waiting to hear how well it idled with the Roots blower and Teague 1050 cam verses with the Whipple superchargers. You did a really nice job, your Daytona is going to haul ass!

It idles great but it's super rich as you can see the cloud of black smoke in this video. Need to check power valves, jetting and also change spark plugs.
