OK been kicking around the idea of a fun weekend car, maybe convertible. Anyway I've always liked both and they both have their pros and cons. I've been reading the reviews the last few years and watching all the videos but I would like to get the info from the "horses mouth" so to speak. Help me make up my mind as to which way I should be leaning!
This should get good!
TIA!

Well I am a die hard Mustang guy. However the Camaro is a bitchen car. Drive them both and make your own decision. I think it really comes down to the style you like. V8 I am assuming?

I love my new 2019 Mustang. Amazing car, but the Camaro SS 1LE is really amazing too.

Absolutely V8! The turbos 4's are pretty impressive but they aren't V8's.

Yep, on paper they are both so close. Pick the one that gets your heart racing. The Camaro's styling lost some of it's cool retro styling IMHO. The Mustang still looks like a Mustang to me. The Challenger (not avail in convert) is by far the closest looking to the originals.

So it truly has to be a subjective decision.

The Camaro in 1LE trim will handle better/sharper and be faster. The Mustang PP2 is a better everyday car.

The 2 are close enough it really comes down to personal preference.

The ZL-1 Camaro is available with a rag top. 650hp supercharged LT-4. Will seriously embarrass the Stang or the SS Camaro mentioned above.

They both do the same thing in different ways.

I’m a pretty diehard gm guy and I just couldn’t get over the camaro interior. The convertible will feel different but the trunk space and visibility out of the camaro killed it for me....a lot of people hate the 2019 camaro and because of that they are doing a 2020 refresh.

The camaro manual is better.. the mustang auto (10speed is better)

They both haul ass I would say the camaro is a better handling platform and the mustang is more comfortable and still very capable.

I have a 2000 ss camaro convertible and a 2019 mustang gt performance pack coupe.

It’s the quad merc 455 outboard of cars. Pure luxury with very little maintenance...lol
I love mine but couldn’t keep an AC belt on it to save my life. I think they make a bracket to fix that now

Never had an issue with belts but I only spin it to 6400. I might have newer or different idlers or brackets as I replaced everything.

I still love the car don’t drive it nearly enough need to get it on e85 so it doesn’t cost me a fortune running it on 100.

Been helping my old man shop for a SUV for the last week, AutoNation Chevy here in PHX has 5 1SS 1LE Camaros on the lot for right at 40k each... If I had the garage space the old lady would be mad as hell when I brought one home, lol...

Had a rental mustang convertible for a Vegas trip. Most uncomfortable car I've ever been in. Would not take that car for free if it was offered.

My old man (who is a mustang guy) got a rental mustang last summer to go from Phoenix to Iowa and back, basic 6 Cyl mustang, he HATED IT! So did my mom. Granted they are in their 60’s, but they are multiple mustang owners and big time ford fans.

Go sit in one (each). My wife wanted a "fun" car 2 door rag top and we eliminated 1/2 the cars by just sitting in them. It came down to the Camaro and the Mustang. Took a test drive in the camaro and the sales guy (wadded in the back seat) said you can go now...what? hell, the light was green but the window frame blocked it, just couldn't see it. We got in the Mustang and it had just a bit more room, you could put your arm out the window, seats felt better. We left the parking lot and felt the IRS and that was that. Also, while they both "have" a back seat, you better not be friendly with anyone you put back there. the other thing that we really like the Mustang for was the trunk. I doubt you could get a set of golf clubs in the camaro, but the Mustang has room for a couple folding chairs and umbrella, or a couple of small bags and and a medium ice chest. This is a 2015 BTW, she went with the V-6 ( I know!) but for a daily driver/weekend getaway car it's enough.

Your butt so your feel. Drive them both. My preference is 60s Mustangs all the way but new Camaros. Either way you should be happy.

18 or 19.
Before you make the decision, go drive them both. I REALLY wanted a Camaro, but I couldn't see a fkn thing when I drove one. Ultimately, I ended up un a Hellcat, but those aren't convertable so doesn't work for you. Much like OSB stated, I'd take a good look at a Z06 as well. Post up some pics of the new whip when you get it!

Or wait till next month after the mid-engine C8 is revealed. I’m guessing the remaining C7’s will be highly discounted. Either one will smoke a Mustang or Camaro!
Would love one but a little out if my budget$$$!
You reminded me w the vet, I don't fit, 6'7" with a long torso. I used to fit in the mustang's, guess I need to get my ass in the seat again and see if I still fit?

I owned a c5 vet and room was. Ever an issue(6’) my friend has a new c7 and I’m not comfortable in it at all honestly I don’t think you would fit.

Some very good takes from everyone with the +\- of each car .

Go drive both cars with the 10 speeds it will blow you away. Make sure you get a car with the different drivers modes... normal sport sport plus drag etc... the mustang is a beast but I have heard good things about the camaro as well.

The crazy part is the 10 speed v8 regular cars are faster than the 5th generation zl1 or 09-11 gt500
With way less hp.

Go electric and Buy a Tesla!
I just bought a Tesla Model 3 Performance. The acceleration is amazing!
The other night at the stop light a mustang pulls up next to me sounding all mean and nasty, reving his engine and wanting a race. The light turns green and before I hit the speed limit I’m already 5 car lengths ahead of him. I look in my rear view mirror and he turns the corner before we hit the next light so as not to embarrass himself again. I’ve always been a Chevrolet fan and had V8 cars and trucks but once I looked at the Performance of these Tesla electric cars and what they can do I was sold. Not much on the street off the showroom floor is quicker and handles better. It’s literally a slot car on the street. The power just pulls harder and harder as you accelerate. 0-60 in 3 seconds. 165 MPH top speed. Go drive a Performance Model and put it in “Ludacris Mode”. The experience will be mind blowing......

They are pretty dang cool...

Isn’t the performance close to 70k otd when optioned?

They absolutely have there place and are monsters stop light to stop light. Not so much from a freeway roll but not even worth the race from a dig. There is no beating a awd electric car on the street.

Based purely on looks and I'm not into being the fastest anymore. Id go for the Mustang. The Camaro to me looks like those drawings artists do turning people into cartoon versions of themselves. A C6 Vette would also be a good choice, in my opinion its the last Vette to look like a Corvette should.

If you want a manual stay away from the Mt-82 in the mustang

My car has an MT-82 and is probably one of the best shifting trans I have ever owned. Every Mustang I have had has had a Tremec or Toploader and although they are much more heavy duty, the MT shift smoother and better. A MGW shifter or FTB trans bracket fixes 99% of the issues.

2018-19 MT-82 have remedied many of the prior issues.

*Trans is actually situated differently in the car to help eliminate 3rd gear lock out.
*Upgraded center support
*Heavy duty syncros, and shift forks
*Eliminated plastic guides
*Dual mass flywheel
*Dual disc clutches

I have never had a lock out, ever. Most of the complaints on the MT-82 are youtuber thrasher kids or hard core drag racers. 99% of the S550 owners never have an issue. I have many open track and HPDE friends driving track weekly with no issues either.

A FTB diff cooler and BRM IRS lockout puts the Mustang right where the 1LE is on the track. But truly less than 1% of the Camaro and Mustang buyers will EVER see the track. So really, just buy the car that fits your financial means, looks, and what gets your head in the right place.

90% of the online reviews always go to the Mustang once subjective analysis takes over; there is a reason for that. And truly, once all the head to head results, online reviews, magazine articles and bench racing has been done, don't you really just want a car that gets your heart pumping? There is never a time I don't park my Mustang and when I start to walk away I turn around and give it a second glance. That's why you buy these cars.

Since it sounds like this isn't going to be a daily that's the kind of car you want, one that gets you going. Whether it be a Camaro or a Mustang. IMO, it's easy; which car is your heart telling you to go with all specs aside.

They are both great, however at 6’7” don’t forget about the red headed step child... I’m a Ford guy, but I don’t hate on the others, they all make some great products. Modern Muscle is alive a kicking! Crazy what has happened in the last three years.

Have you seen this one half the price of a Hellcat.... Pretty sure you would fit in this.

*Upgraded center support
*Heavy duty syncros, and shift forks
*Eliminated plastic guides
*Dual mass flywheel
*Dual disc clutches

I have never had a lock out, ever. Most of the complaints on the MT-82 are youtuber thrasher kids or hard core drag racers. 99% of the S550 owners never have an issue. I have many open track and HPDE friends driving track weekly with no issues either.
I know they have been improved over the years, I had a buddy who’s tranny went out in his 2014 with 800 miles on it driving through Norco stop sign to stop sign 25 mph speed limit, so not shifting hard. It went back to the dealer 2 more times after that for the same issue and they gave him a credit to trade it in on a new car. I know of another 2018 5.0 that’s had the tranny go out twice, not just 3rd lock out but a constant neutral. I don’t read up on the Mt-82s any more as I am not in the market for a 5.0 anymore but I know up until recently your we’re on borrowed time with anything other then granny shifts and who buys a 5.0 to granny shift. I am a die hard manual guy but in a 5.0 I would choose the 10 speed hands down.

Dodge really needs to cut the roof off the challenger. The old ones are some of the most sought after cars on the planet. Huge wasted opportunity.

Would love one but a little out if my budget$$$!
You reminded me w the vet, I don't fit, 6'7" with a long torso. I used to fit in the mustang's, guess I need to get my ass in the seat again and see if I still fit?

You will never be able to see out of the camaro. That was a deal killer for me & 6’2”. I had to duck to see out the windshield

I agree, at 6’7 the best bet is the challenger, I’m 6’0 and sitting in both the new Camaro and Mustang the I have the seat almost pushed back into the back seats

Might have to check that one out when they come out.
Any idea if there is a car rental place in so CA that might have the GT and SS available?

Gm is having a very difficult time selling the Camaro just look at the numbers it’s not very pretty.

The mustang just keeps getting better every year it’s probably the best value in the American market for a performance coupe hands down. And just look at some of the crazy options like brakes and exhaust you could almost make it run better than a GT 350.

Key is in the mustang is selecting your options very carefully.
