My Christmas story

Last week our little dog, Dewey, got out of our electric gate. It seems the neighbors down the street just got one too and were on the same freakin' frequency:smackhead He ran down the street and onto a busy road. He got hit by a car and was killed instantly This was my 3 year old daughter's best friend. She slept with him on her bed, dressed him up and chased him around the place. She was pretty upset. After a couple days of crying and asking me why the angels had to take her dog and why they couldn't just get one of their own, I broke. I told her I went and talked to Santa. I told him she was sad. Santa talked to the angels and Dewey and they sent you a present. His name is Hero.

I really debated about the whole "replacement" thing. My logic told me that it would be a bad thing to teach her life is replacable. My heart told me she needed a new buddy. I came up with the Santa story and felt it dealt with both issues sufficiently. I went on line to the local paper classifieds and the first ad had pups for sale literally 2 miles from my work. I went over after work and picked him up.
