I will be asking for opinions and advice on various things for my 2004 GMC 2500HD.

First up wheels: I'm thinking of putting chrome wheels the truck (alloy not steel wheels). I want to see some examples to see what they look like.

Bone stock truck. Just going with stock sized AT tires.

EDIT: I am going to keep the stock wheels. I will also be asking opinions on other things for the truck in this thread.

JTX Forged makes some of the nicest wheels on the planet right now. I follow em on tiktok and they just got a trailer of new CNC machines.

I think your truck looks great just like it is! Looks like you went with a little larger than stock tire on it? Maybe just add some high quality spacers to move them out slightly?

Why spend a bunch of money of wheels when you already have nice polished wheels on it? Unless you want to lift the truck and put much larger tires on it I'd spend the money on performance parts or a better sound system or something.

I have an 07 classic w/ black wheels!

if you want to sell your stock wheels let me know, I have a 2005 HD 2500 work truck and could use those stock rims!

It had 285/75/16 on it when I bought it. When you call a tire shop, they all say you can run a 245/75/16 , a 265/75/16, or a 285/75/16.

I am going to go with the 265's when I replace them.

I'm just kicking it around. In reality, I will probably stay with the stock wheels.

What ever you decide on for wheels.. look at the Michelin LTX for your tires you get what you pay for..
I had them on my 2003 2500HD long bed and the truck ride and drove like a million bucks.

If you do change them out, I would like two of your stock rims.

I think it looks great on stock wheels. I actually wish someone would make a polished wheel with exact same design but in a 17x9 x 10 with just a little bit of offset for lifted trucks on bigger tires. The stockers are just a bit too narrow for a 12” wide tire....

I like the oem setup too but your tire options are more limited with the factory 16” x 6.5” wide rim. The factory 17” is only one inch wider that that.

Moving to an aftermarket 17” bumps your rim width up to at least 9” and opens up your tire options. I think a wider rim gives you a little better feel with the newer tires out today.

I’m moving to a 17” x 9” rim with zero offset. I too dislike black and honestly anything that isn’t machined finish like the factory rims.

This is the Primm by Black Rhino. This example is a 17” with 33 tires and no offset.

@Marios Metalworks those wheels look great, and that front end is super clean. I could never have those wheels, as they would be difficult to keep clean with all the nooks and crannies. LOL

I have always had chrome and a simple design because I clean my wheels almost daily with Windex. Just spray, and wipe. Haha.

Clean wheels make a truck look better.

About black rims, I think they look good on many trucks, but the black has been going strong for so many years and so many trucks have black wheels. The black look made it easy and cheap to change the look of a vehicle because people could just spray paint, or plasti-dip their wheels, trim, and grill at home.

Ok "Ole Wise One", after thinking about it last night with your words ringing in my head, I am going to stay with the stock wheels. There are too many other things I need to do to the truck... tires, tow mirrors, new lights, new grill trim, steering box, shocks, etc...

I will start another thread asking opinions.

I ran 265/75/16 on my stock rims for many years. I think the 285 without a spacer or lift is too big, definitely too big for the stock rim width. A few years ago I went back to stock size tires and will never run larger again.

Kinda diggin this thread. We bought an 05 duramax 4x4 from Andy here on RDP. I wasn’t crazy about the tires on the 22” rims but FUUUUUUUUCK it’s the best riding truck I’ve ever been in. He did the front end with the cognito and air bags on the back. I really want to put like a 9” lift on it but damn! I can’t get over the ride or the 20Mpg. I just don’t want to mess up the magic. Tires have grown on me. 😁

Stock on mine. Method on the Duramax with 285's. Once I deliver it to Texas 265's are being put on it. The 285's rub too much.

If I am going to keep the stock wheels, I need to get new center caps. Has anyone bought them off Amazon? If so, which ones?

My truck had Chevy center caps on it when I bought it (on a GMC truck). I thought someone must have replaced them with the wrong caps. But there is another GMC in my neighborhood that is identical to mine, and it has Chevy caps also. I know they have GMC caps. Did they come for a while with chevy caps?

I will also need tow mirrors. What are good mirrors to buy? Factory, or aftermarket.

This is the front of the truck.

1) Grill: Polish it, chrome it, or leave it alone? I would prefer for it to shine a little more than it does, but I'm not sure how chrome will look on a stock truck. Polishing it seems like a lot of work to keep up on.

2) I will need tow mirrors. Probably go with the boost mirrors. Go Black, White, or Chrome?

Start by polishing headlights and marker lights. The grill may not bother you as much after.
Yes, I started working on those a little. In may replace them. Definitely replacing the driving lights.
