We're trying to change the steering wheel on the rzr 1000 here in havasu. We tried the harbor freight wheel puller but the spread is wrong. Anybody have the factory tool that we can borrow for an hour?

Do you know what spread you need? Do you have a measurement?

I think mines a little too wide about an inch and a half. Image1483044609.775741.jpg Image1483044637.469933.jpg
You're welcome to use it if you think it'll work, or would like to try

I went to oreilys and rented the gear puller. I had a steering wheel puller and the holes didn't line up.

Thread the nut back onto the shaft down to where it is even with the end of the shaft. Use a brass hammer if possible and hit the end of the shaft while someone else pulls up on the wheel. You can use a steel hammer just don't go crazy. I have never had this not work...

Thanks Dave. Ultimate will pull it for us but we need to take it down there. Sounds easy enough but we tore a sidewall yesterday and the new tires come tomorrow.
We made one puller already and we're on our second try. Hopefully this one works or we'll take it to ultimate tomorrow.

Huge thanks to 40woodie (Jim). We fought this thing all day with home made pullers and harbor freight kit. Picked up his puller and had it off in seconds. He's also got some awesome toys in his garage!! Thanks Jim. Beers are on me!

You've worked on a lot of tapered fit marine helms haven't you. I've used your technique many, many times and also have had very good results.

I was a Master Auto Tech back in the day, but I have worked on boats, trucks, tractors, golf carts, Utvs etc. I have used a puller before but that was very very few times and even then I had to tap on the bolt to get it to break loose.

Glad the OP got it though.:)

Jim, i just saw this. Sorry for the slow response. Cindy and I headed out on Friday so we couldn't do it this weekend. The kids stayed through the weekend, ran the wheels off of the Rzr and did the Desert Bar run. It would have been great to get together had I seen this earlier!

We're headed out again for the Balloon Festival in 2 weeks. Maybe we can do it then if you guys are going to be around.

Happy New Year and thanks again for your help!
