Hi Everyone,

I am starting this new tread soley for the purpose of research and development in our new 21' Fun Deck. We are needing a little help with posted replies showing interest in these hulls. We once were told that the 19' Cheyenne could not be built and sold at an affordable cost for the average blue collar family. We did it and we will continue.

We also have been told that there is no way to produce a 21' Pickle Fork Tunnel Deck Jet Boat at an affordable price for the average blue collar family. We know we can and we will but like many, as well as myself, am a blue collar worker. So this project is moving along as fast as my weekly funds will allow it too. I received a call from a friend of mine who would be interested in helping me fund the completion of the 21' Fun Deck Mold.

The help I am needing from the boating community is a posted reply of how many would be intersted in a 21' Fun Deck Pickle Fork Tunnel Jet with very similar style to the old Tom Papp Mirage. If you could buy a bare one color hull with a starting price of $12,500 and going as high as $29,500, turn key on a trailer with some colors. I would like to see over the next week how many possible sales might come from this. Thank you.

Please post replies, pics, and ideas on changes if any, that the boating community might like to see. Thank you from all of us at EPM, if it was not for the wonderful boating community and their encouragment and support there would be No EPM.

Those fun deck has always been my dream boat! i think its the best all around river boat. take the whole family out on look bitchen while doing it. and i like the fact that its a jet+deck. perfect. imo i wouldnt want any ski storage or probly not a built in ice chest but the cup holders would be a must. and plus obvious storage for the life jackets etc. a sweet stereo would be awesome too!

Hey RYNO22 & Gelcoater,

Thanks for the replys. Yes cup holders for sure. Some get put in the arms of the seat & need some for the bench & front benches as well. Ski locker & floor Ice chest standard. There is a ton of storage on both sides of the motor under the hatch. Heck you can put a holder for life jackets that would hold 4 each, right under the hatch on either side of the motor. So lift the hatch half way & slide a life jacket out.

I would post a pic but at this time I only have what is the plug witch came from my cheyenne mold. We are getting ready to start the mods on it & tool a deck. So this is where the boating community could really help us put out the worlds hottest 21' fun deck. They can be jet, out-drive & even out-boards. Thank you for stopping in & the help.

I think if you can get the overall look to be more smoothe like the 23' ultra vs the 21' ultra/Tom Papp you will do well.

Keep it simple and well thoughout so its quasi roomy. It dosent really fit my need size wise but I have always liked the idea.

Howdy Ron,

I know that you are gonna get a lot of ideas from different folks on this as I'm sure there'll be lots of interest... But, no... please don't make it look like the 23 with the pickle-fork look on the front. The whole idea here is to make it a "family" oriented Deck which IMHO means to keep the front straight just like Tommy's Fundeck (new Ultra 21 Deck)... That makes it so much easier to get in and out of (especially for the kids)... IMO, most of your market will be the family type boaters, so as a family man, this featrure would be very important to me (just look at how many the old Placecraft 22 and Ultra 21 Decks those builders have sold) and they are both straight in the front.

Like I've said before, I personally would not change much at all from Tommy's old Fundeck... I've always loved the pods in front of the driver and passenger, cause they can also serve as really practical storage for small bags, etc. Also, like the way Tommy's railing is set up where it goes from the front of the back seats all the way to the front of the boat which makes it very practical to tie a rope onto. I would add one thing though... some sort of a ladder system for the front of the boat. Cause let's face it, once you put the engine cover on, those swim steps in the back are really not serving much of a purpose as far as skiers getting in and out of the boat, since they have to climb over the engine hatch cover which is not that convenient, especially if it is not flat. But, putting it in the front would be very practical.

Again, please keep in mind that I'm talking as a family performance boater with a couple of kids doing most of my boating on the River between Topoc and Avi casino. I've looked at all kinds of Deck boats, and [for whatever its worth], anything similar to Ultra's 21 Deck fits my needs perfectly (minus the very high price that Ultra has, of course)... The bare hull price is very reasonable... I would like to work with you to find the other pieces (engine, jet, etc) to make it a bit affordable for me than the high 20's that you have mentioned... Which is why I like the way you do business... I.e., giving us a choice... I'm sure that some folks would love to pay you the high 20's for a turn key boat, which is still miles less than what Ultra or Placecraft want and very reasonalbe IMO... However, the rest of us that are on an even tighter budjet can have you build us a bare hull with one or two colors and then work with you to hunt down the rest of the parts (on a not so fancy trailer)...

Any rate, please keep in mind that the above opinions are from a very serious family boater who NEEDS a jet driven deck boat, so you can definitely count me in as one of your buyers...

Hi Jetdrive,

I will be keeping the deck straight for sure. I think I can make a ladder that would pull out from under the deck or maybe from inbetween deck & hull & hing down. Would have to hook a kill switch to it so you couldn't start the motor with it down. That wouldn't be to hard. I think the hatch will be lower & flatter a little so coming over it from the swim steps would be a bit better. Thanks for the post.

I agree with jetdrive on some of his points, but not all. Tommys deck has always been one of my favorite 21' jetboat hulls. BUT, its Tommys boat, and in some eyes, will always be Tommys boat, which it should be. I think as a NEW manufacture, you would want something a little different so that people know the difference. I really like the Ultra 23, but agree on making to bow square off a little more (not so picklefork ish). Front entry latter would be cool, but to conceal it and not hack up the bow would be $$$$$$ I would think. The important thing to remember is "Family Hot Rod". Your typical buyer is going to be a guy with a family that wants a Hot Rod boat. That means tons of storage. I have a 2005, 21' open bow, and it gets packed pretty quick when its the family (me, wife, plus 2 kids) and grandparents (my dad and step mom usually). Storage is key in my opinion, and drink holders:champagne::champagne: of course. A little more freeboard and rounding off some of the straight edges of Tommys vision and you will have a real winner. Kinda like taking the Papp 21 and Place 21 and mashing them together. Im sure what ever you guys come up with will be a winner, the price point you are trying to achieve has one of your feet already in a lot of peoples doors. If I can sell my boat and not loose my ass on it, I will be all over this. Right now, Im on the fence because of that, but who knows, maybe Ill have 2 ponies in the stable.... :D Good luck and keep us informed.

After looking at the quality and workman ship of Ron's first Cheyenne, I think your going to have a home-run here, especially in this market where the average Joe cannot use their home as a cash register anymore. 12.5k for the garage engine builder is VERY appealing! Furthermore your hitting the intrest of someone who wants to be involved or turn key......

At the turn key 30K range is the rigged ready for power?

I've been off the boards, catching up, is this going to be a full glass inner liner on the boat?

I'm sure you will do very well with this project Ron! Kevin @ Cheetah:thumbsup

what motor package at that price?

I was wondering the same thing. I always heard you need to throw big power at these things to move them because of weight (full inner liner). Nothing smaller than a 502 or you will regret it. Is this correct or is there a way around this now??? Cant wait to see this thing, and what you guys come up with.:D:D:thumbsup:thumbsup

Hi Jesco,

There are several of Tommy's fun decks runnin around with small then 502's that run mid 80's mph couple that had 502' that ran 90+ one had a 540 single carb that ran 104, yes 104 I test drove it in 2001 at lake Elsinor before the owner took delivery of it.

To help with weight we'll use carbon fiber in the inner liner & Hull. I know everyone will say " can't do that it will cost to much " Not true, I picked up 1,362 square yards of carbon fiber today Some for the New 509 Race hull & the rest will go into other boats, lake or race. I got a great deal on it & will pass the savings on. Hope this helps on the speed & performance questions..

a stock 502 ?

Well pretty stock, we used lighting headers, demon carb ect, but all in all they were stock. If a EPA motor has to be used not sure what kind of numbers we see untill we get on on the water. I think we'll see 80's with a EPA 502.

What I hope is for people to use there pre 07 motor's out of there jet boats now. Then they can do as they wish & get some bigger numbers in 90's area.

I think most will be grinnin if there safely runnin in the 80's in a 9 passanger family boat :thumbsup thats why we need to hear from as many boaters out there as we can. Tell us what your looking for.. Thanks for the help...

I really like the idea of a deck jet that is light and small in length, I'd actually like smaller than 21. As a river runner I don't see a need for more freeboard. Getting into the boat with ez from the beach is a must, a ladder doesn't work for me as my dogs just can't hang with that. A swim step in the back for when your just floating down river. Begin that I am used to a closed bow baot everytime I use the pontoon, open bow or deck boat with a lot of folks the visabililty from the drivers seat is greatly reduced. I rode in a Advantage 26 party cat once which had a center drivers seat that is up a little higher and that was so much better for the driver. you could in corporate a storage area in front of this drivers pod for larger ice chest.

Hey Ndawind,

I think we'll have plenty of ice chest room. Free board will be minimal a ladder in the front doesn't have to be used but could be there for deep water boarding. Driver visibility will be looked at & adjusted as best as postible. Maybe as we tool up for a deck we'll have a open house & invite boaters to come see & give some opinions before turning it into a mold. Thanks for your imput

i think thats a great idea!input from the buying public, and a chance for the people who are more in the dark about just how this whole process is done to see it up close. after they see how much money and labor goes into just tooling, your prices will seem even sweeter.:thumbsup

liberator builds a bass boat version with a full inner liner,
maybe something like it but setup for seating not fishing.

I like the deck on TPR's between the forks, the transom seems just a tad too high, but you can put a flat engine cover on it.

The tall transom was set up to do jet & out drive units you need 28 inches min for most out drives.. one mold many uses. We hope to fix a few things such as this. Thanks for the pics & help. Sincerely, Ron

my 21 daytona can be rigged as a outdrive, jet or wacker. sometimes a little low on the freeboard for lake use but not bad with
a engine cover.

BTW I would be your first customer for one of these if I had not just spent
all the time redoing my 21.

I'm sure you will come up with a winner:thumbsup

I agree with some of the guys in here about changing the driver/passener pods or "windshield". I would make them look like the newer style ultra 23 deck or 22 stealth etc. Much smoother lines, and I don't thin k it will restrict your view that much. In my opinion the lower I can sit in the boat, the safer I feel.

That said, the straight front deck is a must, full inner liner is awesome, I think you will do well at those prices.

Hi paradise,

yeah we have gottin some good feedback. I only wish I could move it along faster. Steady as she goes. It is coming along hope to have pics up in couple weeks. We have just been slammed with 19's right know. Lot of leg work putting it all together but well worth it to see so many happy boaters. Soon it will be time to put huge grins on fun deck buyers. :D

If your talking about making a mold for a 23' Deck similar to the Virage that would accept an outdrive, and also has a Dual Helm kind of like what the the Howard Deck has I would be interested. Oh yeah you could do without that gay access door the virage had on the side also ,just extra weight with little benefit.

Hello everyone,
True I have been very busy, I have a hard time with alot of the industry people right now running 2 times longer then quoted. Can't understand why they set a timeline if they are not going to even come close lol.

I have been moving into a 5,000 sqf building that will be the new home of Edge Performance Marine. We will have a full Engine Clean Room, Rigging area, Repair area (fiberglass, gel coat & re gel coating ect ) we will have New & used baots for sale along with boats on Consignment.

We will have a huge used parts department run by Mike Pierce or better known as The World Famous ( MOUZER ) We will order new parts for you from any major parts manufacture at prices that would get us banned if they knew, lol

We will be holding " Do It Yourself classes " 2 saturdays a month for father/son or Entire familys that want to bring that project boat in & pay a class fee to get professional help & use professional materials while having access to perfessional shop tool available. Not everyone has room to work on that project at home, or maybe they have run into something that their not sure how the best way would to fix it. Not everyone can afford to pay big shop rates ect. So if anyone wants to call to get on a list feel free. 1-951-662-9988 Hoping to hold first class first weekend in June..

Ron this is a cool idea, i could see you needing a bigger shop real quick:thumbsup

Hi scottietwohoty,

The classes will be a hands on learning classes. Say you have some delam going on. You bring your boat in & we will set you up with the tools, show you how to grind part of it out. Then you finish the grinding. Then we will show you how to replace the glass & wet it out. Show you how not to leave any air pockets ect.

Maybe a father son bought a boat & blow the head gaskets. Maybe they don't have all the tools to tear it down, Check the heads replace gaskets & put it back together. Some might be affraid to drop a dist back in & time a motor.

These classes will be a mix of things. Really it's what ever a customer needs help with & really wants to learn how to do & still do it themself.
All you'll have to do is, Bring in that boat with what ever it might have wrong with it & we'll help you get it fixed..

Hi Cheetah Boats,

Thanks. It really just comes down to one boating guy helping another. I am just a blue collar workin guy like 93.7% of all boating familys. Not all of us heck most of us can't pay the huge rates most shops charge. If you bring a boat with a good size crack in the bottom that most shop's would charge $2k+ to fix, you could fix it in 3 to 5 classes. At 149.95 a class your $450 to $750 to fix the same thing another shop would have charged $2k+ Thats a pretty good savings. Plus No mess at the house, no stopping to go buy a tool you need or running out of materials.

What if you buy a boat & the first weekend out you end up with water in the oil? You need a hoist, eng stand, room in the garage or drive way. Wifes already mad as hell because you bought a boat with a problem. :box: The tool chest in the corner of the garage is missing half the tools that were in it 5 yrs ago. Your thinking about taking it to a shop but u know the answer " THOUSANDS " :grumble: B.S. one class out & tore down. Second class put back together & on run stand. 3 class back in the boat & ready TOTAL $450.00 plus parts :party2: Heck you saved so much you were able to throw a little more hp in it. You bring home a sweet ride & your the heroe of your home. Kids are super happy, wifes tellin ya she's got a little something for ya. Big win win all round :champagne:
