Just curious if the factory awlgrip on a schiada could be gel coated over for color change purposes without being sanded off or grinded off.

Not very well. I know of one that had it done and it goes from the nice pattern non skid to more of a cottage cheese texture.

I have seen it done with paint with success. Paint is thinner and they can do very light coats and keep the nonskid. My buddy had it done on his.

He has a schiada jet that’s painted.

Pats Fiberglass Repair in Upland does it. As I understand it they thin white gel coat and apply just enough to get to a consistent white color while preserving the texture.

SoCal Speed and Marine in Castaic also does it.
