Want to skip the diesel pump issues and wait for a truck to be available?

I agree with you…I owned a diesel, loved that diesel. Unless you are towing very heavy loads beyond the capabilites of a half ton pickup, I would not consider a modern day diesel. Especially any of the ones that require DEF or have the pre catalytic systems all all that modern day smog shit. Just way to many things to fail, the fuel economy on them sucks on the 2500s.Want to skip the diesel pump issues and wait for a truck to be available?

Walt had the same truck and the fuel pump or something shit the bed and it was super expensive and out of warranty. The diesels are great until they aren’t. And when they aren’t your near 5 figures to fix it.As far as modern 1/2 Ton diesels, my 2020 RAM 1500 has 10K miles on it now. Gets 30-32 MPG unloaded at 70 MPH, full tank average. Towing a 4-5K low profile load, 21-24 MPG at 60 - 70 MPH. Mixed driving in Vegas, AC on 22-24 MPG.
I do around that weight give or take depending on the trip. Suck gas to the toon of 6-8mpg. But truck was way cheaper and repairs will be cheaper.I tow 12k lbs. when TH loaded, about 1k lbs. in the bed.
Sticking to diesel for now , but with extended warranty for sure .

I did some serious research on the Chevy and Dodge half ton 1500 diesel trucks,... I went with the Chevy 5.3, 3 weeks ago.
I love the fuel economy they offer, but DEF fluid and all the extra systems they have, lead me to believe the risk of expensive out of warranty repairs would have a higher Total Owner Ship over 8-10 years, and 250,000 miles of ownership.
I chose 5.3 Chevy. But that's my opinion, and what I wanted. Doesn't mean that I was right or wrong. It just added up in my cost benefit analysis. Everyone is entitled to there own. I ruled out the Chevy 3.0 diesel based on the fact at 150k miles you have to remove the transmission to replace a belt. Yes thats a fact... Dodge I ruled out based on the reliability they have overall. Lots of problems, the moment you are out of warranty... Thats not something I want to chance, I plan to own my truck for many years. Is 12.1 years supposed to be good or bad? Because it sounds terrible. Not really, the average age of a vehicle on the road just hit 12.1 years for the first time. It is going to be a very good run in the car business. Dealerships are selling at record high multiples currently based on forecasts.

Holy chit I must be in really bad shape then, the average age of my vehicles on the road is 28 years. Is 12.1 years supposed to be good or bad? Because it sounds terrible.
Very good for people in my business. With the average age hitting this high, it shows pent-up demand. With high demand and continued low inventory there will not be pressure on margins. When your new vehicle department can be an additional source of net revenue, dealer profits are much higher. Typically fixed and used departments are the primary source of net income. They tend to have higher gross margins and significantly lower expenses. Is 12.1 years supposed to be good or bad? Because it sounds terrible.
It’s no man’s land decision for me.I do around that weight give or take depending on the trip. Suck gas to the toon of 6-8mpg. But truck was way cheaper and repairs will be cheaper.
it’s kind of a pick your poison deal. Kinda fucked either way.
A buddy of mine runs a Ford dealer. Chip shortage is still real. He has 11 total vehicles to sell. That's it. He gave me a deal but said the prices will remain high for a bit. Basic supply and demandSo I'm in the market but not willing to pay stupid prices. How long is the chip shortage going to Continue and how will this affect thee 2022s or all the unsllabe 2021s

Pics of what?Nice truck I want to see more pictures.
Nah we like our trucks out of the service bay.Funny to see all these Dodge guys trying to capitalize on their truck... should have bought a Ford or Chevy in the first place..
The truck that was in your earlier postPics of what?
I’As far as buying a new truck, my current one is 14 years old, I'm due. 3-5k more than I would of paid a year ago is not a deal killer for me.
Me too.
Buying a F250 7.3 gasser.
not hearsay on parts:The CP4 pump has been a known issue, not a matter of if but when is it going to go out. It's in the Rams in 19' and 2020s that I know of. The 21 went back to the CP3. not sure if your truck has a conversion but mine (19' Ram) does. I think the pump is around 1,500$ and if your truck is out of warranty anyways its a no brainer. I'm even considering it since I've heard stories of trucks sitting at the dealers for months with no parts but thats just hearsay. I've had 3 duramax's with CP3 pumps 2 had over 240k miles and the other 426k miles before the motor let go, no fuel additives its entire life and never a CP3 failure.

Oh come on you know you can get more than 65 out of it.I’ve driven a 6.0 GMC gasser loaded down with a pacific service bed (3) for 13 years.
I grind on those poor trucks struggling to run code 3 hammering that poor gasser/trans.
I like torque and going up the cajon at 65 towing, so I pay the price of diesel, lol.
I have 2 years unlimited miles on the fix. If I keep it 6-8 months no payments, still ahead on top of last 3 years no payments.
And I run 35’s on my trucks for glamis , so torque and $ it is.
Oh come on you know you can get more than 65 out of it.
I do 60. I just need a fuel station sponsor lol
Oh I get it the mpg difference between 60 and 70 is like 2mpgView attachment 1017617
It’s enough, lol
It’s getting to the speeds that is the differenceOh I get it the mpg difference between 60 and 70 is like 2mpg
Buy it, they may make you a deal!I have a 19 Trail Boss with a 2 year lease ending 8-5. I was only allotted 12K miles a year, and it's at 25K . I was going take it back for a '22, but guess that's not happening. Not sure what to do with this thing. GM said I can keep paying the monthly for another 6 months, and keep up it, but I can't drive it, or the mileage is going to go "way" over.
I love it when they say “only” right in front of a great big ridiculous price.Idk what you all are bitching about

Are the 2500/3500 getting the long over due interior refresh? Or what are the 2023 upgrades you're hearing?I talked to a local GMC dealer today about a loaded 2021 Denali HD dually. Sticker was $84,500 but they won’t sell for less than $96,000 with markup and addendums. They did offer me $76K for my 2020 Denali HD with 32,500 miles. Needless to say I told them no thanks and will wait for the 2023 with the upgrades I’m hearing about.

I have your theory on the diesels as well.Unless i was towing a big 5ver toyhauler loaded im skipping.I have a 04 2500hd 6.0 gasser been a great truck does the job i expect out of it.Im at point though where i aint gonna spend a ton for a new truck and repairs for me will be cheaper. But yeh my milage sucks towing but diesel repairs aint cheap either.I do around that weight give or take depending on the trip. In this market, I bet you can sell it for more than the residual value. Especially if you leased it 2 years ago.
I’d keep driving it, and buy it at the end of the lease. It’ll be the cheapest truck you can buy in this market.
Or sell it and pocket the difference.
The absolute last thing I’d do, is turn it in at lease end. The used car manager will be foaming at the mouth…they’ll sell it for waaaay more than residual.

No, your residual is just a payoff like any other loan. The lien holder just guarantees that payoff based on condition and miles.mid you buy at the end of the lease, do you still get charged for exceeding the miles?
i always thought you do get hit with the overage regardless.
